I have an enormous sports card collection...going all the way back from the late 50's to the present. I inherited my older brother's collection (mostly baseball, football) and then started getting into it myself...my interest has come and gone, and come again over the years. Just purchased a certified, autographed Dennis Johnson card this past weekend...only $20! A steal! Also, have an almost equally enormous record/cd collection. When I do things, I overdo them! Any other unique collections/hobbies for which you've devoted considerable time, energy, passion, financial resources? guitars and ukes. consumer electronics. got more speakers, amps/preamps, receivers, cabling than i'll ever use. less of a collection than an attempt to reach a/v nirvana. i like watches, too. just can't bring myself to spend big bucks on them, which i think is a good thing. have some decent mid to low mid range pieces- luminox, hamilton etc. wearing my favorite fossil today. hard to beat for the price. Pretty cool. Just wondering, has the counterfeit industry bitten into sports card memorabilia any? I collected basketball cards for abut 3 years (Skybox, Hoops, Fleer from 88-91 or so). I remember the card to get was a Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card. Now authentic ones are going for a couple grand less than what they once were because of the uncertainty around reproductions. I still have about a 300 card basketball card collection in a teenage mutant ninja turtles binder that I haven't looked at in 10 years. hobbie: homebrewing collections: redheads...always looking for more... I started with a Citizen Eco Drive Watch and became interested in the movement and ability for sun to operate a time-keeping device. A 60s era Omega Constellation followed which cost a few dollars more than the Citizen but the movement and vintage is magnificient. Truly a classy piece. What do you do with the speakers and such? closest i ever got to owning a rolex was a $20 knock off i bought from a street urchin in europe. worked for 2 days. has never run again. a friend who inherited his father's submariner took it off to compare it once. couldn't tell the difference and started to freak out before i told him to look at the second hands. even for the 2 days it worked, the second hand pulsated like a $20 watch would, not the smooth movement of a real one. of course by that time, it didn't move at all. still have it. don't know why. as far as stereo stuff, have an old scott tube amp and homemade cabinets with electrovoice speakers- my first decent equipment, sitting in a closet and i'll probably never get rid of them (or use them). other stuff is pretty boring and collecting dust - but ya never know when you might need it! and i'm not a pack rat...no, i'm really not a pack rat... just when it comes to electronics. Some might say I have a jeep parts collection, along with a hockey/goalie equipment collection. I still have a sports card collection from when I was growing up. I also used to collect Orange County and West Coast Choppers models. I have a bit of a hat collection too. I have two three trigger Steven shotguns. You think they're worth anything? Just kidding. You know, I don't have a Jordan rookie, and likely never will...so I am not sure. My collection is very Buffalo/me oriented...I don't necessarily care about superstars, unless they play for my teams...there are exceptions. For instance, my formative sports fan life started in the 1970's, in WNY. As a result, I own every card ever issued of a Buffalo Braves player, during the 70's...virtually every Buffalo Bills and Sabres card from that era (and many, many more from before and after, in the case of the Bills). I also happen to be a big Celtics fan. But I hated them, before the Braves left Buffalo. So, while I appreciate the history of the Russell era Celtics, as well as Havlechek, I don't really collect cards featuring them...but I do collect 80's Celtics (Bird era)... In other words, my collection, I would guess is fairly valuable, but, because it is tailored to my tastes, it doesn't have the value that it might, if I collected everything...if that makes sense. I would more likely drop $20 for a certified autographed Dennis Johnson card, than I would $30 for a certified Tom Brady card...the Brady card would be a far better value, but, to me, personally, the Johnson card is way more valuable... not to say, I wouldn't pick up good value cards of guys I don't care about...they are great for trading! I also have a massive card collection and CD/LP collection. I also collect shot glass's, matchbooks, first edition books, bumper stickers, and I like to grab souvenirs from my travels. I collected Sports Cards as a kid, everything from Baseball, Basketball, Football, and NASCAR. I also have my father's card collection, bunch of old farts like Carl Yestremski, and Mikey Mantle. Moved on to comic books in my teen years and still have a sizable collection. Through my years growing up I have also built a small gun collection of around 15 guns. I may shoot my glock every couple months, but for the most part they sit collecting dust apart from deer season. My nerd persona collects lego star wars sets (about 15), as well as collectors editions of my favorite video games and random figurines.
