IDBillzFan
Every year our small city holds a beautiful Memorial Day service at a modest Veteran's Memorial they built in 2009. We've gone to their service every year, and it is one of the most moving events we'll ever experience. The area has a beautiful monument, around which bricks are put down for soldiers from the area who have died over the years in military service. Each year they honor soldiers who had died the previous year, with military personnel adding the new bricks and presenting flags, etc. to the soldiers' respective family members. The local girl scouts follow the military person with a single rose for the family as well, and as each name is called, a bell is rung. In spite of the small size of our city, it seems like the list will never end and the bell will never stop ringing. They also feature fly-overs and 21-gun salutes, and by the time it is over you can't help but feel proud, yet insignificant in terms of the single life you try to lead. If you go to your service, I'd be curious to hear if they do similar things. If you don't go, consider carving out a couple of hours of your Monday to join your local families in support.
