The coolest thing about WNY

Recommended Posts

Thursday at the Harbor shows were just announced. Between Artpark, Lockport, and Canalside you could see 4-5 shows a week by major acts, and half the shows are free, and the ones you have to pay for cost $10 tops.

Free or cheap concerts are a part of life in WNY that a lot of folks take for granted. Look at the lineups and consider the ticket prices you'd pay elsewhere to see them:

44 shows over 3 months.

WNY Summers are one of the countries best kept secrets for many reasons.

I have to agree with this.

Awesome. Steve Miller tickets were $250 bucks at a casino here in San Diego. $10 at the artpark? Wow!

$250?!?! That's freaking insane.

BTW saw Little Feat at Artpark a couple of summers ago for free. Are they no longer doing the free shows? I knew they were talking about changing that.

I've got to move.

Here's the lineups for Syracuse....

Oh, wait, there aren't any! Even Ballonfest, which used to get current bands (saw Lisa Loeb, Joan Osborne, and Barenaked Ladies in one weekend) can only afford cover bands this year.

Tuesdays at Artpark are $5 or $10. Wednesdays are still free. The only other series with a ticket charge is Rockin' the Harbor.

Yeah, they started charging at Artpark - even though it's minimal - they hope it cuts down on crowds. I think it was ZZ Top last summer than was just ridiculous.

I'm really looking forward to J Geils Band on 8/31.

I believe Peter Wolf and Magic Dick will both be with the band.

I dunno about that. I just talked to my brother in Dunkirk and he can't wait to retire and move West to get away from the humidity. I felt the same way when I lived there-after April it was so hot and humid the only outside activity I cared about was swimming.

Does he live in Dunkirk, France?

If he did I doubt he would move. When his wife worked for United they flew for free and were going to France like other people go to the movies.

Really WNY is terribly humid. I have had friends up here for hunting and I can bet they mention the cars have no rust before they get out of the airport parking lot.

Sure it's not humid in Alaska. It's probably snowing right now!

I think it can be humid in Buffalo, but it's nothing like down South. Walking out of the Orlando airport is really like walking into a sauna. It is startling.

Could be at 8000 thousand feet. Fortunately I live at sea level. CAN be humid in buffalo? you're kidding. There were times it was hard to tell were the lake ended and the air began.

One time I was in Phoenix and the temp was 80 and the dew point was -10. Now THATS low humidity.
