Because ... #1 - He is an above average defensive lineman who consistently pressures the quarterback and has decent range and speed. Sacks are not the sole qualifier for someone to be good although many on this board who don't like what Kelsay is paid think that you have to have loads of sacks to be worth the money. #2 - Coaches in more than one coaching regime have been supportive of Kelsay. He is not playing because he is just one coach's favorite ... he has played and been respected by all of his coaches. #3 - The other players respect him, you don't get named as captain if you are a low life scum who should be off the team.

What you say is true, but did he earn the starting spot by default? I mean, who was good enough to take that spot?

Remember Donte Whitner as #36? How about the cj spiller / leodis McKelvin swap? It surely could happen so I'll wait till the final roster gets set to grab a Williams jersey. Think I'm gong to get a white Freddy when the mid level ones finally come out.

There definitely was never the demand for Whitner or McKelvin jerseys like there is for Mario. Whitner made his switch before he played a regular season game in his rookie year. I realize that it has happened before but I can't see anyway the number changes. Especially the way Mario is talking about it.

That's totally not true, if you remember this Bills great...

#55 became #97, and so it can happen again, and again... nothing new.

As someone already pointed out, he can switch, but he has to buy up all the jerseys in stock. I don't think that would be much of a problem for him, but why throw it away?

I respect kelsay for not giving up 90 (even though I didn't know players "owned" it). It's like he's saying "hey I'm a player in this league too, at the same position, not conceding anyhing. "
