"Fitz will be pressed." Actually, Fitz is probably relieved; there's somebody with decent experience on the roster if he gets hurt.

It's not a horrible article, but a bit sensational. Folks need to understand VY was a top three pick, and while he hasn't lit up the league, he also hasn't been an abject failure. It's entirely possible he is maturing and ready to approach his craft seriously. If he does, it makes the Bills better.

the bills are making Vince Young available to the media, like they do any other acquisition. perhaps, not on the scale of Mario Williams but, they're making him available now that he's town. what's wrong with that?

don't you want to hear what he might have to say about this new chapter of his career, and how he intends to approach it. geez, you'd swear some of the posters in this thread don't understand how this business works. they would prefer that Vince Young be kept under wraps because the media might stir up a controversy, and suggest it's a mistake to have him even speak to the media because well ...

what a bunch of baloney. he's a grown man, accustomed to dealing with the media and i'm sure capable of handling himself. The Bills have signed him, they've said he's going to compete for the backup job. OK, fine. let's see what his thoughts are.

Come on you know everyone in Buffalo thinks the world is out to get them. Bills fans especially suffer from this paranoia!

This.

How fast people forget. Uh hello when the bills signed Tyler Thigpen he had a "press conference". And here's the proof:

Thigpen presser

Some people need to get a clue and stop reading into everything. FA signees are commonly made available to the media. Relax people.

Kota, it seems you are already on a mission to rile your fellow fans into a fan-based controversy. Stop it.

Out of Buddy and Chan and Fitz and VY, none of them care what some reporter writes. Dont buy into the hype.

eball makes a great point as well. Fitz was forced (by himself) to play through an excruciating injury last year because he knew that the backup was even worse. Having a reliable backup who can step in for a couple games and allow him to heal is most likely a very welcomed addition to the team.

No need to look for middle-school drama where it doesnt exist. Having a good backup is part of having a good team. There doesnt always have to be a controversy.

A new Bills player - a fairly high-profile player, btw - arrives in town, and says a few words to the media. BFD.

I've never seen so many girls get their panties in a bunch over such a non-event. :wallbash:

VY was wearing a uniform to address the media? That's odd.

Now that would be unusual - to see a newly signed player come to the podium in uniform, full pads - helmet & all - to address the media in mid-May

(He does look good in the Bills t-shirt & New Era training camp hat, though  )

Young on backup role: "All you can do is come in and work. You always have to be ready because you never know what's going to happen"

...

Young: "It's not about me...I just want to go out and play football and help out any way I can."

Sounds like Flutie version 2.

They must be the ones who don't remember that James Harris was the first black player to start a season at QB

Only you old fogies would remember that.

yeesh. i'd hate to wonder what people might be saying if the Buffalo Bills purposely kept Vince Young from the media. can't win for losing, eh?

They did a great job of camouflaging that cattle prod during the media session, though, didn't they? ;)

Quote from Vince Young: All you can do is come in and work. You always have to be ready because you never know what's going to happen.

ESPN Sportscenter Story: Vince Young gunning for Ryan Fitzpatrick's job?!!?!?! Says "You never know whats going to happen!" at Bills press conference!

Just out of curiosity, in your experience, does a newly-signed backup quarterback give a press conference? Or is this only because he's high profile for a backup? (Let's not even get into the circus that was the presser for the Jets' new backup!)

Sounds like Flutie version 2.

Except that Flutie signed a multi-year, incentive-laden, veteran minimum contract - and was promised he'd have the opportunity to compete for the starting QB job.

Less than a month later, the Bills reneged on that promise, trading their 1st round [9th-overall] pick in the upcoming draft (along with a 4th round pick) for Rob Johnson, whom Wade Phillips promptly named the Bills starting QB, before camp started and before either QB ever took a snap in a Bills uniform.

So the two situations really could not be more dissimilar. Just sayin'.

GO BILLSSS!!!!

19 and 0 baby!!!!! B-)
