looks like we have to cut kelsey

Recommended Posts

I'd be willing to bet the people wanting to release Kelsay over this have never been in charge of anything their entire life. See the problem with many people on this board is if they were in charge they would be running this professional team like a 6th grader calling the shots at recess playing kickball. Kelsay has earned every right to hold onto his number. He has had that number his entire career with the same team and has been in the league 4 years longer than Mario. The only thing I care about is how many sacks Mario is going to get. He could wear number 73 0r 79 or 68 or 97 and it wouldnt matter to me. But to outright release a guy because he wont give up his number hes had for 10 years on the same team? Put that in the ridiculous category

There's some real mean spirited posts on here. Chris Kelsay is going to make the team. He may start, he may not, he probably will. The guy has played for the Bills for ten years and loves it here. I met his Dad at Midway on the way home for the Raiders game last year and had a beer with him. Hell of a nice guy. While I was talking to him, he picked up the phone, called Chris and asked him if it was cool if I came to hang out with him, Kyle Williams, Lindell (his closest homies on the team apparently) after the game at some bar they always go to in OP after every home game. I'm 33, so I'm too old to go gawk at professional football players, but if I was ten years younger, it probably would have been awesome. My point is twofold: #1- you come off like real a**holes and #2- you really don't know football that well at all. The guy has been voted captain by his peers several times, he's proud to be a member of this franchise, he is valuable to this team. Did you not watch the game against the Broncos last season? He was the best player on the football field on either team. He's not a great talent, but he's certainly deserving of making the 53-man roster. What, you think they should keep Robert Eddins in his place or something? As a 4-3 run defender, Kelsay is actually a pretty effective football player.

jesus christ. talk about overdoing it. chris kelsay is a mediocre football player. he's a symbol of a decade of football in buffalo that brings new meaning to the term epic fail. that's awesome that his dad is cool, but i'm sure other players who have sucked have cool dads too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kelsay hasn't alwasy been 90.

I am not sure what his previous number was but I know he switched.

EDIT: The article says he has worn it his entire career, but I swear I remember him wearing another number.

most recent #90's

Phil Hansen thru 2001

Ryan Denney only 2002 (switched to #92 in 2003)

Chris Kelsay 2003 - present

Mario Williams 2012 - 2017

This excuse is very common. Except, Kelsay has lined up as if 4-3 DE most of the time even when he was listed as a OLB throughout the 3-4 era. I don't know how anyone can justify the term "solid" when he is supposed to be a pass rush specialist yet gets no sacks. When he does, they seem like flukes. Others call him a run-stuffer, which is ridiculous, because he had zero run stuffs last year and very few over his entire career. It's no accident that the highest paid player the Bills have ever signed happens to play Kelsay's position.

I've never heard him be called that. You're obviously labeling him this to further your claim he is useless. Wait to week 12 when we're down a few guys to injuries to see how useless he really is.

Yeah Lee Evans is awesome too.

Tell me who you think we should keep over him. Danny Batten? Robert Eddins? Because that's who would have to beat him out. I didn't say he's a great football player, I just said he will make the 53-man roster, as he should.

As one of the biggest Kelsay bashers on this board, I'm going to make a conscious effort to not bash him anymore. This team doesn't have enough DEs as it is. He deserves a spot as a backup for at least one more season and yes, he looked good against Tebow. On to other topics..

lol nice. comment on my user name that i made in 2004. like i give a !@#$.

sure, if any of those guys step up to the table and play really well from training camp into pre-season, i'd absolutely take them over chris !@#$ing kelsey. you know what you're getting with that guy - not much. i'd much rather cut him and spend that money on the best available FA who is cut in august (see nick barnett).

This seems more psychological than anything. It's an ego thing. He doesn't want to admit Mario is better than him by giving up his number. He said he grew attached to the number. Yea ok. You haven't done much with the number anyway. I'm always at the Ralph and am yet to see someone with a Kelsay jersey on and if they do have it on I automatically suspect it's a family member. What a loser. That's why he's going to be a situational passer this year and Mark Anderson will take the starting role.

I not care for his personality either. Going to Mario to tell him he can't have his number is kinda childish. Chris, don't assume you even have a place on this team. He referred to Dareus as "borderline cocky." No, not in the slightest. That's known as "talent."

Yes, talking to another person about a potential problem is childish.

Got a link the the Dareus comment so we can see the context? Calling a football player borderline cocky seem like a complement to me.

Well said. Kelsay is not spectacular, but solid.

Chris Kelsay is a good football player who has been surrounded by bartenders and coached by clowns his entire career. And he never threw anyone under the bus or complained when they tried to make him a LB in the NFL after never playing it...ever.

The number IS irrelevant and Kelsay bashers are immature, ignorant idiots. And what does he make...3.5? Hell, Thigpen gets paid that for holding a clipboard. C'mon people.

Have you followed these players at all? I think you have that last line exactly opposite. Anderson is the situational pass rusher, Keslay is the every down guy.

And did you even read the article? Kelsay just want's to finish his career with that number, HE brought it up with Williams not the other way around. You are just off here.

I have an issue with the headline for the article: "Kelsay won't yield No. 90 to Mario".

The connotation of "yield" is the traffic meaning - someone else has the right of way and you have to wait for them. So "won't yield", to me, gives the image of someone taking something that belongs to someone else in an obvious disregard for the rules. According to the article, Kelsay hasn't been asked by Mario or anyone else to give his number up. The more accurate headline would have been "Kelsay to keep No. 90".

No, I don't think Kelsay is a better player than Williams. But the headline to me casts Kelsay in a very negative light that should not be there.

OK, let's cut the BS. I'll give you 2:1 odds. How much you wanna bet he makes the team?
