I doubt we're gonna carry 2 Kickers on starting day. I say this guy is here to compete against Lindell, pure and simple. The Bills want someone who's getting more Touchbacks and if Potter can kick Field Goals, he may be your new guy.

Lindell is older, costs more, and is coming off an injury. You're right. Potter will be given an opportunity to win the job.

Yeah, 81% FG accuracy for his career (83% with the Bills) and only one missed PAT in 363 attempts sucks. Lindell is currently the 27th most accurate FG kicker in NFL history, but his numbers with the Bills alone over the past nine years would move him closer to top 10.

The KO specialist thing is not "new" but it makes more sense given the changing dynamic of the game.

Agreed.

Move along, nothing more to see in this thread, IMO...

Makes a little more sense now. He wasn't drafted to compete with Lindell for field goals, but rather to be a kickoff specialist.

Potter had a 44% touchback percentage in college. Consider that the kickoff is 5 yards shorter in the NFL and his percentage should be well over 50%. To put that into perspective, Lindell had only a 28% touchback percentage last season.

If he can kick the ball through the end zone 75% of the time, it will be a great value pick in the 7th round. . . . if not, well we missed out on another game-changer like, ah, hmm, ahhhh? last year's pick: Mike Jasper.

Because of the directional kicks, I assumed Lindell did not have the leg to get touchbacks until last preseason when he kicked 9 touchbacks out of 13 kickoffs (69.2%), including several kicked out of the end zone. Another was run out from 5 yards deep.

I don't understand this draft pick. I'd be okay with keeping him if he consistently gets touchbacks and that keeps Lindell fresh and accurate all year. But, we're facing some tough cuts this year. It seems like quite a luzury to keep 2 kickers.
