JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Is there any other way to say his last name than picturing Draco Malfoy spitting it out?
Captain Hindsight Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I agree - he was extremely tentative. You could time him hitting the hole with a sundial. He also seemed tentative to me at the LOS, running the wildcat too, especially as the season wore on. Another word for that is patience
KRT88 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 It looks like he will make the team no, too me it sounds like he's going make the team, we haven't seen him on the field, we have only heard about him from what the coaches have said. sorry, had to be done.
UConn James Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 It makes more sense when you consider teams can dress 46 players this year on game day instead of 45. Also, since the Bills save a spot by having Brad Smith as the 3rd QB.

Just in Atlanta Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 5th round pick Tank Carder, a former BMX champion who was told he'd never walk who hits like a...tank...and his name is Tank: 1 thread, 88 replies. 7th round pick John Potter, a guy who...kicks a lot of touchbacks: 2 threads, 103 replies. Make that 104.
BRAWNDO Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Straight from buddies mouth. You can believe him or choose not to. +1 He said at the end of draft press conference on Saturday if he can consistently get touchbacks Chan will find a place for him. Having the other teams offense start from their 20 helps the defense.
Turbosrrgood Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) Don't forget Lindell is aging and finished the season on IR, and we used 3 kickers last year (the replacements sucked). Not an awful idea to at least see what the kid can do with the 3rd to last pick in the draft. We could have emulated the Jags, and grabbed a punter in the 3rd... Edited April 30, 2012 by Turbosrrgood
Doc Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 If he can KO through the EZ most of the time, he'd easily be worth a roster spot.
cody Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 What should Nix have said at the press conference? 1) I gave 10 mil to a guy this off-season, but I think a 7th rounder has a chance to beat him out. 2) I drafted him 3 picks before the end of the draft to see what people on the internet would say. Like all 7th rounders, to make the team he is going to have to do well in camp and hope he does not get caught up in the 'numbers game' where they decide to keep an extra DB or LB.

He clearly was not a draft pick to contend for the field goal work. He simply isnt good enough. He was drafted to boom kicks out of the endzone and he's damn good at that. He'll probably make the team as the 46th guy, whether or not he does particularly well in camp. Chan wants to play the field position game and having a 28% touchback kicker like Lindell will get you killed. If he can KO through the EZ most of the time, he'd easily be worth a roster spot. Bingo.

Don't be dismissive of the possibility of Potter improving his accuracy over time like numerous other kickoff specialists have done. It might start with him attempting some 60 yarders and morph into him being our regular kicker. It could end with Potter someday being the field goal specialist and yielding kickoff duties to a younger guy with a stronger leg.
Mr_Blizzard Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Would be great to see the Bills getting more touchbacks on kickoffs. We got killed on kickoff returns last season.
truth on hold Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) Then just cut Lindell. He's not good enough to warrant occupying 2 roster spots for FG kicker Edited May 1, 2012 by Joe_the_6_pack
Dennis in NC Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Hey, this is sort of "on topic". This UDFA punter Shawn Powell seems like a guy who could replace Moorman this year. You may want to check this guy out.
Charles Romes Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 This actually keeps the roster number the same as Ruvell can finally be sent packing, his services no longer needed on special teams.
eball Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Then just cut Lindell. He's not good enough to warrant occupying 2 roster spots for FG kicker Yeah, 81% FG accuracy for his career (83% with the Bills) and only one missed PAT in 363 attempts sucks. Lindell is currently the 27th most accurate FG kicker in NFL history, but his numbers with the Bills alone over the past nine years would move him closer to top 10. The KO specialist thing is not "new" but it makes more sense given the changing dynamic of the game.
Wayne Cubed Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 It makes sense to at least bring him to camp to push Lindell. But I don't think they keep 2 kickers on the active roster, just because I'm sure they would like to keep someone who see's the field a bit more. Then they could hide him away on the practice squad if they are thinking of eventually replacing Lindell. I'm probably in the minority here but I thought Lindell and the Bills did a great job with the new rule. Consider the Bills had the LOWEST yards per return allowed in the NFL at 20.4 ypr. Not kicking it into the endzone every time actually helped. It made sense to kick it a little short and let the guy run it out and stop him before the 20. Also we the Bills didn't give up a TD on kick off.

Still, Lindell got hurt on a tackle, and if you can save the wear and tear on your coverage units by blasting it through the end zone isn't that a good thing? How many days does EVERY man on the active roster play? At least to start the season (before injuries are a factor) I'd have to think carrying that extra specialist isn't a drain on what's available to the coaches. Anyway, it certainly can be debated, but I sort of like the idea.
CSBill Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 If he can kick the ball through the end zone 75% of the time, it will be a great value pick in the 7th round. . . . if not, well we missed out on another game-changer like, ah, hmm, ahhhh? last year's pick: Mike Jasper.
