I'm intrigued by the fact that he had a lot of tackles in spite of getting a lot of touchbacks.

How does a guy do something like that?

Maybe he's got special powers.

He punted too, didn't he?

There are only 53 spots. If he gets on the team and doesn't supplant Lindell, then the long snapper most likely goes. You can only keep so many specialists.

Fullback would go IMO.

I think he eliminates the need to keep guys on the team who are just special team members, it could mean we keep 2 more linemen over linebackers and DBs.

Can he play QB? 0:)

Probably not. But he just might be able to kick an 80 yard field goal.

Seriously. He splits the uprights on kickoffs from the 30!

DeHaven's got to be creamin' his jeans.

Makes a little more sense now. He wasn't drafted to compete with Lindell for field goals, but rather to be a kickoff specialist.

Bills seventh-round pick K John Potter is seen by Buffalo as a kickoff specialist. After having so many of their own opponents blast it through the end zone to neutralize kick returner Brad Smith last season, Buffalo would like to return the favor.

“That’s mostly what people did to us,” said Bills GM Buddy Nix.

Potter had a 44% touchback percentage in college. Consider that the kickoff is 5 yards shorter in the NFL and his percentage should be well over 50%. To put that into perspective, Lindell had only a 28% touchback percentage last season.

I think Brad Smith "neutralized" himself by sucking at returning kickoffs. He looked like Herman Munster running up the field.

I doubt we're gonna carry 2 Kickers on starting day. I say this guy is here to compete against Lindell, pure and simple. The Bills want someone who's getting more Touchbacks and if Potter can kick Field Goals, he may be your new guy.

You should listen to Buddy's press conference then.

Potter is not here to kick field goals.

Yeah, that's what Buddy said this morning on the radio, also. Chris Brown put the link on bb.com, if anyone wants to listen to Buddy's interview this morning.

Correct. And if you think about it, it makes sense.

Carrying an extra kicker on your team is worth not giving up valuable field position. A 28% touchback percentage is awful. Potter will get that over 50%.

I agree - he was extremely tentative. You could time him hitting the hole with a sundial. He also seemed tentative to me at the LOS, running the wildcat too, especially as the season wore on.

two kickers? I can't imagine that happening. The guy had better be practicing field goal kicking as well. Wonder if Lindell's age and wear and tear (wear and tear?...a field goal kicker?) is catching up to him.

Straight from buddies mouth. You can believe him or choose not to.

Of all players, I think Brad Smith was most negatively impacted by the lockout. Gailey has said as much -- they didn't have the luxury of designing plays for him that they really wanted to. And then, when the injury bug hit the WRs, Smith was forced into that role -- one for which he was not really prepared.

I'm sure this affected his return game as well. I'm expecting much bigger things out of Smith this season -- particularly as the Wildcat QB. I don't think he'll even return kicks.

It makes more sense when you consider teams can dress 46 players this year on game day instead of 45.
