KD in CA
So everyone was in agreement that House Ballard was the BPA when the 283d pick rolled around?
nucci
Part of that was Ballard still had college eligibility left and didn't sign with the Bills until '88.

Cugalabanza
I met Howard Ballard when he came to my dorm room to pick up my roommate (his nephew) in 1989.
3putt
So everyone was in agreement that House Ballard was the BPA when the 283d pick rolled around? apparently he was. The more cogent point is he wasn't taken with a #2 out of panic. A good LT can be found in later rounds.

But how can you say it would have been a 'panic' to take him with a #2? Wouldn't he have been the "BPA" at that point in the draft? Would it have been a panic to take Brady with a #1? Wasn't he also the "BPA" at that time?
