Gordio Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 You must be with the wife or you could hear about it for years to come. Not worth the risk. Disagree, I would push the envelope & go to the draft party. Yeah sure your going to have to take your medicine when you get home but what are you going to do. My wife always takes the kids up with her family to my father in laws cottage down in Chattaqua for Memorial Day & Labor Day Weekend. She leaves Friday with the kids & does not come back to Tuesday. She always expects me to make at least an appearance down there on Saturday or something. There is nothing more in this world then I hate then that stupid cottage. So last Labor day she was like "when are you planning on coming down this weekend?" I was like well college opener is that Saturday I guess I will come down Sunday." She is like you know all my cousins are coming(she knows I hate her cousins) why don't you just skip it this year" I didn't hesitate, I was like yeah sure, thanks. Had my friends over watched, football all weekend it was great. I heard about if for 2 days after I got back. She was a real B word to me but it was well worth it.
Just Jack Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 ....dare I wait till she goes to sleep to slip out to the party? If you do that, not only should you have the divorce papers ready, but have your new apartment lined up and update your Match.com profile, because you won't be coming back home.
It's in My Blood Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Thursday is my anniversary. I told my wife who is 3 months pregnant with #2 that I was going to skip the draft party this year. She asked why, I said it falls on our anniversary. She said she didn't want to go anywhere or do anything and that I should go.....as I sat there stunned, I muttered , "meh i don't really care to go anyway" I think this is a trap of epic proportions. What should I do TDB.....and yes advice is needed for once.... Shes making you choose, her or football. Stay home if you love her or go out if you don't. Its as simple as that.
BUFFALOTONE Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 She already gave me the go ahead so its not really a choice. We have been married for 4 and together for 10 so she knows how I feel about the draft and football. We were married on the year we drafted McKelvin. Friggin Jauron.... 9 out 10 she will be asleep anyways so I will be up watching it myself. But if I am there than I don't catch the heat.
R. Rich Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Me too. My friends and I used to sit in front of the TV all day, playing cards, drinking beer, eating pizza. It was a great day. Not quite the same feeling when you know that you have to go to work the next morning. Maybe you do. I take the time off now to go up to Buffalo for the draft party, so I'll be off from Thursday 'til the followin' Wednesday. But, I do echo your sentiments. I miss the old format, too.
BillsObserver Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks ... my brother will be in from Virginia too so maybe we'll head down there to help your buddy out! Is the pizza any good? Solid slice of pie, in my opinion. Hope to see you there..
Buftex Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 (edited) I'm old enough to remember when it was on on Tuesday's in the '80s and ESPN (Berman and crew) used to cover it. I'd "get sick" that day and phone the picks in to my dad's bar to keep his patrons up to date on what was going on. See, young folks, there was a time before internet ..... And I am old enough to remember when NFL Draft coverage meant turing on the 6pm news, finding out who the Bills picked in the first round, from Chuck Healey...reading the front page of the Couriour Express Sports Page the next day, to find out more about the guy we picked...and reading about the other 15 rounds of the draft in the "transactions" column on the last page of the section...the good old days! Not to be repetitive, cuz while I enjoy watching the draft coverage, I don't consider myself a "draft-nik", I was always interested in watching the Bills first pick, live, with other Bills fans, and then would just tune in and out the rest of the weekend to see what was going on...moving the first round Thursday night pretty much killed my desire/need to watch it live...used to look forward to meeting up with other Bills fans in town on Saturday morning for those early picks...but I really don't want to devote the early part of my Saturday to see who the Bills will pick in rounds 5-7... I think Goodell screwed up a good thing, just for the sake of putting his imprint on it... Or maybe I am just a cranky old !@#$ who is sick of always having to deal with change, and am less likely to for something as, ultimately, trivial as the NFL draft coverage...after the first round or two, I usually know little about the players picked. Now where is my morning newspapaer? Edited April 20, 2012 by Buftex

Same here, I was always sick on Tuesdays and would be glued to the TV watching Berman and gang with all my back issues of The Sporting News that had rankings for each position for the draft.
KD in CA Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 And I am old enough to remember when NFL Draft coverage meant turing on the 6pm news, finding out who the Bills picked in the first round, from Chuck Healey...reading the front page of the Couriour Express Sports Page the next day, to find out more about the guy we picked...and reading about the other 15 rounds of the draft in the "transactions" column on the last page of the section...the good old days! LOL...same here. Except we had moved away from Buffalo so the local news only told me who the Giants and Jets picked in the first round. The Bills 'draft party' was reading the paper the next day where they had the little column showing only the 26 first round picks (no commentary). A couple days later they'd get around to listing the full draft (not that you knew any of the players anyway because there was one college game on each Saturday instead of 34 like now). Funny you mention the daily 'transactions' column in the paper. That was honestly the only way you found out about a trades, injuries, FA signings, cuts, etc. across the various pro leagues. Too funny. Thursday is my anniversary. Only you know your wife. I had that same situation several times when my wife was pregnant but I know that she meant it and had no desire to spoil my good time so it was never an issue. Hopefully you didn't marry the kind of woman who looks for ways to 'trap' her husband for the purpose of throwing guilt trips on him.
thebug Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I am going to wait until it gets closer...good advice though from everyone. Including the guy who told me to ready my divorce papers. The thing is normally she is in bed by 9 from chasing the 2 year old and being at the end of the first tri-mester....dare I wait till she goes to sleep to slip out to the party? Does that make me an epic POS? Also, the air n sea show is that weekend and 3 buddies have a hotel for the weekend on FT Lauderdale beach. I have already gotten the go ahead to attend. I am thinking of just staying home and not pushing my luck. Hard to say, I don't know your wife. My wife, I would go and I wouldn't hear a word about it, ever. She knew what she was getting into 11 years ago. I'm not changing and she knows that.
Maddog69 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Similar situation here. She surprised me with tickets to Lewis Black and an overnight stay at the Oneida casino for Thursday! An early birthday gift. We've been married two years (though it's the second for both of us) and she wanted to be impulsive. My reaction was a forced "Gee, that's great." Finally I told her I had tix to the Bill's draft party at the fieldhouse but I was going to give them away. After a few days of forcing excitement for the upcoming trip she gave me a small opening to escape and I took it! I put the Lewis Black tix on Stub Hub today. Buy her some big-ass roses and go to the draft party. Text her half way into it and tell her she's the best wife ever. That's my plan. you should not plan on getting any for a month or so
HBSS151 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I am coming to town for the Bills' Friday night party but we are looking for a good place to watch the Thursday night draft picks. Does anyone have a recommendation? Anyone in the LA area - The Santa Monica Bills Backers will be out in force at Busby's
BillsPride12 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 No draft party for me but me and my buddies will head over to our favorite bar and watch the draft there. There should be a decent amount of people there following the draft so I guess you could call it a party lol

LancasterSteve Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Maybe you do. I take the time off now to go up to Buffalo for the draft party, so I'll be off from Thursday 'til the followin' Wednesday. But, I do echo your sentiments. I miss the old format, too. Yep I miss the old format also my friend. Really looking forward to seeing You again. The fieldhouse is OK I guess but much preferred Dave n Busters for the Draft Party. Heck even the Clubs at RWS were better IMHO but we gotta roll with what the Bills provide. Another thing the Bills stopped doing is having some scouts at the draft party to talk with. Going to ask Nix about that when I see him again
CowgirlsFan Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 (edited) I will be at Cowboys Stadium for mine. Believe it or not, it's all free except for the food! Can't wait to hear Goodall call out the Bills and the Cowboys pick! Edited April 21, 2012 by CowgirlsFan
vegas55 Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 I am coming to town for the Bills' Friday night party but we are looking for a good place to watch the Thursday night draft picks. Does anyone have a recommendation? That's easy - Wanakah Grill in Hamburg/Lakeview - the owner is a draft nut like many of us.
