Damn...

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook earlier today. Over the next 10 plus years we'll start losing some real good ones.

I have never been the biggest Dead fan, but I saw Levon Helm do this song, "Tennessee Jed" a few years back on Letterman...it blew me away...I didn't even know the song, but it inspired me to buy my first Dead cd...I like Levon's version better...as a ****ty drummer, I can say, something about seeing somebody play drums and sing always makes me jealous! God-speed Levon.

Thanks. I was not aware and had recently spoke with some friends about going up to catch a Midnight Ramble in Woodstock. The best to him and his family as he finishes up.:worthy:

trying to figure out if I saw The Band...some reason I am fuzzy in my recollection, but i think they played longbranch park in the mid 80's in liverpool ny...pure prarie league may have been on the bill....anyone remember?

I do know they played Watkins Glen in the mid-70's with the Dead & the Allmans, that must've been one hell of an experience to attend.

RIP Levon.

History of The Band

Back in the day when they played with Ronnie Hawkins on the Young Street Strip in Toronto seen them a number of times. Sat and spoke with them a few times. Richard Manuel a Band member comes from Stratford Ontario, each day I walk past his bench by the river

Richards bench

These guys music will endure.

Cancer no respecter of age or person. Levon does leave behind a great legacy.

It was in 1973 and larger than Woodstock. The best part is that there were so many people there the day before that the Dead did a sound check that ende up running two sets. I tried to find recordings of it a few years ago and don't remember if I did. I'll look again. Ahhhh the good ole days.

I've got them from the newsgroups or bit torrent some years ago, they are on a CD-R stack somewhere in my closet right now, but here is The Band's nfo file:

The Band

July 28th, 1973

Watkins Glen Grand Prix Course

Watkins Glen

New York

SOURCE: Soundboard Master Reel>CDR>SHN

Back To Memphis

Endless Highway

I Shall Be Released

Loving You Is Sweeter

Too Wet To Work

Don't Ya Tell Henry

The Rumor

Time To Kill

Jam

Up On Cripple Creek

NOTES: This may have once been available officially.

This is also not likely the full set as we are missing

several Band classics such as the Weight. However, this

is, by far, the best sounding recording of the evening.

I think that this is a degraded SBD. I did what I could with

it, but it still is not perfect, but definitely listenable.

To my knowledge no other source circulates. The ABB sits in

with the Dead & the Band for a bit. These songs are on disc 4

of the Dead's set.

Yes, it was. Got rained on like a motherstumper though on Saturday (I think). Hot as hell, great music and a driving rainstorm that no one could escape. Totally drenched in about 2 minutes. A lot of the rest is kinda cloudy if you know what I mean

It was called Summer Jam.

The Dead wouldn't let Leon Russell play. He just about begged them to let him, but they wanted bands that were groups, not bands backing a lead star.

Good times my friends. Good times.

Outstanding! Wish I had been there too. Poor Leon, I never heard that before.
