tennesseeboy Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 it would have been higher but for maybin. Levitre, Wood and Byrd were first rate choices and Nelson and Harris are holding their own for sure. I think C plus is about right but could have fairly comfortably moved to B-.
Maddog69 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 getting 3 starters makes it a B, but a horrible bust with Maybin and no depth probably drops it to a C+ or so.

Billsrhody Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Imagine if we had just drafted Orakpo like EVERYONE thought we would and expected? This draft would be an A++ and by far the best in recent memory. That still irks me... Orakpo is a beast!
KD in CA Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 3 solid starters has to equal a B, but the Maybin brainfart is so hard to overlook. Worst pick EVER.
KollegeStudnet Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) I still think the '09 draft was'nt that bad... However, it would've been better if Maybin wasn't the pick... I still find myself pondering while watching clips of the 2009 draft, when the commentators saw the Bills select Maybin over Oher and/or Orakpo! The commentators like us fans were stunned! Just imagine if the Bills selected Oher, this Oline would be one of the greater lines in the league! KollegeStudnet Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) You can't get any higher than a C+ when your top pick is considered an All-time bust! Sadly, he had a higher sack total with the Jestes than any Bills player last season... With Maybin's 6 sacks, Dareus was the closest with 5.5 The jury is still out on Maybin...He is close to being labeled as an "All-time bust"...I guess after the 2012 season, if he produces far less than 6 sacks...he then should be on the "All-time bust" list! EDIT: IMO, Maybin should be on the list after the 2012 season...Mostly, for being a high draft pick...turned into a situational pass specialist who only can play on 3rd down...that can't sack a QB Edited April 16, 2012 by KollegeStudnet

tennesseeboy Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Not being on the roster is holding their own??? nelson is on the jets roster and you are right about harris who was let go by jacksonville, I believe. I figure if the player is playing as a late rounder he is an okay choice. Maybin, although playing for the Jets, seems to be a bust as a first round pick...so far at least.
Captain Hindsight Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Would have been a B with Maybin actually producing. He is a blitzing corner and thats it. Dickie J missed on that pick
dpberr Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 (edited) I'll give it a B. The Bills will get three Pro Bowl players out of that draft. That is a resounding drafting success in the wilderness years, P.N. (pre Nix). Edited April 16, 2012 by dpberr
SelmonSmith6378 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Well, we got Jairus. The only really crappy pick was Maybin.
rayray808 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I had to give a C+ given the fact our first pick was a COMPLETE BUST
Kelly the Dog Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I'll give it a B. The Bills will get three Pro Bowl players out of that draft. That is a resounding drafting success in the wilderness years, P.N. (pre Nix). How is three pro bowlers from one draft not an A if not A+? I'm not sure we're getting three pro bowlers but it's possible. All three of those guys are very good. This is not directed toward you, but if we just took Maybin off the #1 choice and put him at #4 and moved everyone up a notch, very few would say anything negative about the draft. To me, it's nonsense to say you have to hit a homerun with the #1 pick. You just have to get great production from any pick, and good production from 2-3 others to make it a very successful draft.
playman Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 3 of 8 is a c+ and with a better 11th it would be a B and with that 11th going to the pro-bowl it might have been an A
bluenews Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 -My grade was a solid "D." Just can't miss at #11 and leave so many good players on the board! Mark Long Beach Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 As everyone else is, I'm disappointed with the #11 pick. But a miss is a miss, be it a 1st rounder or a 7th. The only difference is that we're LESS likely to miss with a 1st rounder. A number of NFL guys have said that they'd like to get 2.5 starters out of every draft. We did better than that, and the three aren't just decent starters, but very good ones. We should be so lucky EVERY draft. My only quibble is that we got no depth other than the three. Pluses: 3 Excellent starters that would be difficult to upgrade. Minuses: No other (competent) backup players even as emergency fill-ins. Grade: B+
