Bruce Irvin Stock plummets

Recommended Posts

From what I've read he was playing as a down lineman in a 34 defense, and as a D end in any defense I wouldn't expect him to rack up tackles or use the tackle stat as a measure of his ability. In 2011 he led WVU with 14 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. In 2010 he finished the season with 14 sacks.

Yeah like I said I used the eye test more than anything. I also won't discount his sack production but that was all it seemed he did got to the qb or got blown out of the play. Just what I saw in watching not the most expert of analysis but he failed my eye test.

That's exactly how you find a player like Jason Taylor. Doesn't happen a lot, but I would never fault the team for drafting a productive pass rusher with a mid-to-late pick, regardless of his size.

In an ideal world, worst case is he's quick enough to contribute on special teams. That's decent value for a midround guy for where the floor ends up. Terrible value in the first.

Haven't you been adamant about Floyd being nothing but trouble? At least he hasn't gotten in trouble in the last year, meanwhile you root for the guy that keeps getting in trouble. How does that make sense.

Also if the Bills can grab this guy late then do it and hope that he realizes what a great opportunity he has.

Never said a word about Floyd's character.

I have pointed out that i do not think he is the pick due to Buddy not attending his pro day, and he is not scheduled for a visit.

I also pointed out that a highly doubt Buddy and Chan will take a wr in the first from ND.

But no, his drinking incidents, are not the reason i am not a proponnent of Floyd at 10.

Personally, drinking incidents in college do not really scare me off a guy.

That is just me.

My apologies for the mix up.

I hope he succeeds.

It would be a very good story.

Breaking a sign at a fast food restaurant is no where near what he went through to get where he is.

He sounds like a person trying to turn his life around. If you can not root for that, then it says more about you and less about him.

He didn't even break a sign at a fast food restaurant. You should read the story in the link that playman posted. He knocked a sign off the top of a takeout delivery vehicle.

I believe the kid has turned it around and nothing's gonna stop him. He's an elite talent with a non-stop motor. He has desire and hunger and he's an incredible talent. He's overcome huge odds and he's not gonna falter now.

I couldn't disagree more strongly with you. I find Irvin's video to be compelling. His athletic ability and relentlessness, his constant hustle…

Irvin looks like a great football player to me. As I said weeks ago, I expect him to be one of the elite players to come out of this draft. Some team will take a chance on him (Pittsburgh? Chicago?) and be very glad they did.

On top of all this, his times in the 40, 3-cone, and shuttle's were by far the best at the combine.

Irvin's athleticism is easily on par or beyond Von Miller's.

He was misused as a 3-3 defensive end playing 5-7-9 technique and routinely lining up against 300 pound tackles. Irvin played the 2011 season at 235 pounds but bulked up and has remained at 245 pounds for two months now.

In spite of being an undersized defensive end, he showed great physicality using a bull rush to defeat opposing blockers concerned about his outside speed. He was a good run defender in spite of just being asked to hold the point on most plays.

His talent is limitless and his motor is always running.

Corey Moore 2.0?

Moore would have been great if Greggo wasn't a moron and try to make a small 34 OLB a 43 DE.

Man you sound like me about Tannehill :D . If he could play in our system I'd take him in the second easy but I don't see us blitzing much so I'm not sure but I would be happy to have him cuz one he's good and two that means we would blitz more ( ) like Denver did with Von Miller.

Dude,

it is a sign on a delivery vehicle for a restuarant and i can gaurantee it is not in as good of shape as it was before he knocked it off.

If you want to argue symantics i can too.

Having said that, we are both hoping he produces. I did read the story, being from Atlanta i was interested in where he grew up and where he was from.

Sorry man, but your not the only person who can read on the board. Good luck and have a nice day trying to pick fights.

The bolded is the exact opposite of what I saw. Also I was watching entire games and not just highlights. That said we are seeing two different things and its no biggie.

I do wonder though where do you see him as a fit in this d? He would more than likely be asked to play olb and more than likely slb. What have you seen in his tape that you like at this position? Or do you expect him to be a de?

I also don't see desire and hunger in his game. I was close to the wvu sidelines for su-wvu and he couldn't have seemed less interested. In looking up his stats he did nothing in the game and I mean not one single stat. Maybe this game and up close viewing of him is skewing my other looks at him but I'm not a fan.I don't think this kid pans out and for where he is projected I would prefer Lavonte David to him.

Id gladly take this kid! Put him around positive people positive things happen!

Yep :wallbash: . Have him drafted by a team that hasn't made the playoffs in forever should do wonders for him. He's probably go destroy the restaurant if Buffalo gave him the call that they'd drafted him. No thanks to this guy in any round. He's more likely to CAUSE dissension then get his life turned around coming here. Just say no and move on to this !!

I hope he succeeds.

Les Carpenter is from Yahoo Sports, not DraftTek.

just keepin it real...

i didnt click outside the thread for any info, just replying to a person saying that irvin slid to the 6th on draftek. i happen to disagree with some of the player movement on the boards from what ive heard come from draftek, though i dont much follow the site. Honestly, pretty much my only interaction is when someone starts a thread about it here, and your input from there. just a personal opinion, as is any ranking on the site.

You completely misconstrued my post.

I was clarifying for others that the damage was to a sign on top of a vehicle (think Domino's Pizza) not a signpost in a plaza or outside a store. It was important for me to point this out as I'm a big Irvin backer and accurate information is important in any case… especially when people's reputations are affected by it. Apparently he was angry at the delivery driver for some reason.

I was clarifying, not arguing and it has nothing to do with "symantics."

Nor was I "picking a fight" and I wasn't suggesting that you can't read…

The bolded is the exact opposite of what I saw. Also I was watching entire games and not just highlights. That said we are seeing two different things and its no biggie.

I never watch highlight packages. I watch game cutups… which include all plays good and bad.

I've watched all the plays in Irvin's games against Pitt, Maryland, Louisville, Marshall, and NC State.

There exists no video of his game against Syracuse.

As for his temperament, I can't imagine anyone describing him as being disinterested. I don't read scouting reports as a rule because I like to form my own opinions but I doubt you'd find a scouting report which questions his motor or intensity.

As for where he fits in this D, he probably doesn't. I think he'll be a 3-4 rushbacker for someone, and a very fine one.

However, because of his historically exceptional times in the long and short shuttle and 3-cone drills plus his sub 4.5 forty times, he has proven to have elite agility. I think with the right coaching that he could play outside backer in any scheme and excel.

As a college defensive end I doubt he's dropped into coverage more than a handful of times so he has no history of being able to master the nuances of coverage… but again, he's an elite athlete.

I have never been impressed with Irvin. Being a SU fan I watch a lot of big east football (yeah I don't know why either) and he just doesn't do it for me. He disappears for long stretches in games and is non existent in others.

Just to confirm it wasn't only my eyes I looked up his stats... He had 44 career tackles in 2 years!

As Cary Bender pointed out, he played defensive end in college. And he only started his senior year. As a junior he compiled 14 sacks as a pass rush specialist.

His career tackle numbers are a very misleading stat… worthless for evaluation purposes.

in fact it doesnt much matter, as he is an undersized mid rounder, not an undersized top half of the first rounder.

i would draft a maybin type player mid rounds any day. i tend to shy away from them in the first night though.

In an ideal world, worst case is he's quick enough to contribute on special teams. That's decent value for a midround guy for where the floor ends up. Terrible value in the first.

NoSaint, you undersell Irvin big time. You do him a great disservice as a football player.

I think the fact that Bruce Irvin has visited 10 teams so far (I believe that's as many visits as any prospect in this draft) pretty much dispels the idea that he's a mid-round pick or that his stock is plummeting.
