Bruce Irvin Stock plummets

Recommended Posts

On drafttek Bruce Irvin fell from 46 all the way down to 171, that's like the 6th rnd! He could be had in the latter rounds now as a pass rush specialist but what the heck happened?

171 Bruce Irvin West Virginia 6'3" 245 OLB34 DE43 0 -125

I just saw Mayock talking about him today...pretty sure he's in his top-100. Was saying how he's not an every down player, but that in today's NFL he's valuable having just one skill - pass rush. Looked really quick in the combine clips they were showing, and seems like he's got the sort of frame where he could add some muscle.

What happened? I had seen him as a possible 2nd round choice for the Bills.

Former West Virginia DE Bruce Irvin was arrested late Saturday night after he allegedly broke a sign at a Jimmy Johns Sandwich Shop in Morgantown. He was charged with destruction of property and disorderly conduct.

Irvin, 24, has had issues in the past and this latest incident will raise more questions about his immaturity. Where the undersized pass-rush specialist once could have been considered a late-second-rounder, he's now looking at coming off the board in the late third round/early fourth round.

I hope he succeeds.

It would be a very good story.

Breaking a sign at a fast food restaurant is no where near what he went through to get where he is.

He sounds like a person trying to turn his life around. If you can not root for that, then it says more about you and less about him.

"Undersized pass rush specialist" has to make every Bills fan nervous.

No, it's completely different.

I have never been impressed with Irvin. Being a SU fan I watch a lot of big east football (yeah I don't know why either) and he just doesn't do it for me. He disappears for long stretches in games and is non existent in others.

Just to confirm it wasn't only my eyes I looked up his stats... He had 44 career tackles in 2 years!

Please, do tell, and I'm not being sarcastic. I want your opinion. Tell me about the guy and how he differs from the "undersized" Maybin and perhaps has closer parallel to the "undersized" Von Miller.

Because this guy isn't going to be a top pick. He won't go until day 2, so there will be little to no expectations. If you can find a productive pass rusher, even if he's a one-down player, with your 4th pick or later, I'd say you're doing pretty well. Picking a project with a mid-to-late pick makes sense...picking one with your rd 1 pick is a huge risk.

From what I've read he was playing as a down lineman in a 34 defense, and as a D end in any defense I wouldn't expect him to rack up tackles or use the tackle stat as a measure of his ability. In 2011 he led WVU with 14 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. In 2010 he finished the season with 14 sacks.

Haven't you been adamant about Floyd being nothing but trouble? At least he hasn't gotten in trouble in the last year, meanwhile you root for the guy that keeps getting in trouble. How does that make sense.

Also if the Bills can grab this guy late then do it and hope that he realizes what a great opportunity he has.

in fact it doesnt much matter, as he is an undersized mid rounder, not an undersized top half of the first rounder.

i would draft a maybin type player mid rounds any day. i tend to shy away from them in the first night though.

floyds lifetime movie hasnt gone into pre-production yet.

while i think either could be productive players, and i believe in second chances, id be lying if i said i did worry about guys with track records of bad judgement

That's exactly how you find a player like Jason Taylor. Doesn't happen a lot, but I would never fault the team for drafting a productive pass rusher with a mid-to-late pick, regardless of his size.
