Vikings willing to trade 3rd pick

i would give our 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th round picks in this years draft or this years #1 and next years #1 to move up to #3 in this years draft and take Kalil. i think Kalil is the surest/safest player in this draft.

I'll wholeheartedly go along with the first half of what you've written, while disagreeing with the second half. A franchise LT is worth trading up for. The Bills acquire a large "quantity" of players every year. You'd think that after a few years of that, the Bills' need for quantity would be filled--at least for a while. However, players chosen for quantity often don't last very long. Kalil will. So why not get Kalil and some quantity this year, and add to the quantity next year?

 

However, I disagree with the idea of trading away the Bills' first round pick in next year's draft. If you don't have a franchise QB--and the Bills don't--you shouldn't be trading away future first rounders for anything except a young franchise QB! Filling that need is that important!

 

Unfortunately, I think that Beerball is probably right. In my mind, the most likely scenario is the following:

1. The Browns move up one slot in the draft to #3 overall. This allows them to take Tannehill at 3rd overall, thereby locking the Dolphins out of that pick.

2. The Vikings move down to 4th overall (the Browns' old pick). They take Kalil there; while also receiving some compensation from the Browns for their trouble.

 

If the above happens--which it probably will--then the Bills should stay at 10th overall. Unless, of course, there's the chance to trade down in this year's draft while acquiring a first round pick in the 2013 draft! Having two first round picks in next year's draft would better position the Bills to take the franchise QB that's their true need.

You've got to compare what the Bills get in both scenarios. Now, the Bills, if they were trade savvy, could trade for the pick, only to trade it once they have it - but that stuff is ridiculous to forecast and Nix isn't that kind of GM.

 

If they trade up to get Kalil, or anyone else at 3, they'd have to give up their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and probably another 1st or 2nd to make it happen, in light of what the Redskins gave up. All that for Kalil or Clayborn. Now, compare that one player to someone at 10, like Floyd, or Glenn, - or, even a trade down to say 15, still getting Glenn, and another 3rd round pick. Sticking with 10, though, you get say Glenn, and then in the 2nd you're able to get Sanu, or Stephen Hill. With the 3rd you get a QB prospect, say, like Cousins, or a LB like Zach Brown, maybe - or a slick trade up to get a starting calibre LB.

 

So... one player and a loss of all the other prospects, or all the other prospects - There is no way - NO WAY - Buddy Nix trades up.

I would sign up for that in a heartbeat. But you know Minnesota isn't dumb enough to take our useless garbage to switch spots. What are they going to do with two totally useless slugs. Kelsay and McKelvin stink out loud. They are perfect examples of very poor drafting.

Minnesota would probably want way more to trade down.

I would sign up for our 4th and 5th picks to trade spots. Or even both of our 4th round picks, but the Vikings would probably want higher picks than that. I would NOT give up our second round to move up. I would MAYBE consider our 3rd rounder. Kalil looks like a franchise left tackle. He would improve our run game and pass protection NOTICEABLY! He would be worth trading up for if the price is reasonable. A great left tackle makes any offense a lot better.

That is of course if he turns out to be as good as the analysts predict.

It would be GREAT to gain another 1st rounder next year, but I can't see a team giving up a 1st round pick just to move up to 10. You would be lucky if you gain a second rounder. And with the Bills reputation of trading, it wouldn't even be a 2nd, it would probably be a 3rd. Everyone fleeces the Bills in trades. We trade ex first rounders for 4th and 5th picks. Our front office STINKS when it comes to trading. We got garbage picks for Lynch, McGahee, Evans, Peters, etc.

 

If the Bills would have dumped a few more games last year and finished where the Rams did, they would be on the road to success. The choices they gained from the Red Skins would allow you to really add some talent quickly. Those six wins set the Bills back a whole year in stocking talent.

The Colts were smart in dumping games until the end of the year when they knew they had the Andrew Luck sweepstakes locked up. St.Louis just lucked out that Washington was willing to give away the farm to get the second best quarterback in the draft. All those draft picks should make the Rams get good in a hurry. They even got another number 1 next year out of it.

We get on the phone fast. i think this year we trade down or trade up. At least be very ready to move. if Kalil gets to five i am all in. as i would be for Luck or Griffin. Kalil is worth a number 3 value, is a long term starter and is elite at the position. But moving up to 3 is too expensive and 4 still brutal but at 5,6.7 i am working the phones hard.

I agree with you, if the Vikings don't take Kalil and he falls to the 5th, 6th, or 7th pick, I would be on that phone working my butt off. I think you might have a shot of going from 10 to 5 for giving up our 3rd and 5th pick along with our first. If he falls to 7 the chances are real good you could get to that slot farily reasonable.

I doesn't hurt to ask, the worst that could happen is they say no.

If I couldn't move up to get Kalil I would try to trade down and see if I could get an additional 2nd rounder. I wouldn't trade down to gain a 4th rounder, a 3rd rounder would be the least I would take to trade down. 4th rounders are long shots to become starters, so I wouldn't trade down for a 4th rounder.

Yep i'm on board too. But we already spent so much money on defense are you sure you wouldn't rather have Kalil and make the game more fun to watch as compared to; kick off returned to 10. FG. kickoff returned to 21. fg. etc etc. ad nauseum lol!

Yeah, but we would score everytime we got the ball. As long as the defense could hold the other team once in a while we would 3 point them to death. And maybe once in a while our offense could score a touchdown. I think if you could score everytime you get the ball you would win a lot of games, unless your defense is absolutely terrible. (Ewww, looking at the Bills defense in 2011, yeah, they are terrible. You would need an average or a little below average defense for my theory to be successful. Looks like it wouldn't work with the Bills "D". They are worse than the worst. The other team scores everytime they get the ball.

You're right, but I think you are not getting what we are saying. We would be giving our number 1 pick along with a couple of our mid rounders to switch spots. They would still have a number 1 pick just not as high. If they don't want to gain a 3 and 4 to switch spots, then you are back to where you were, no harm no foul. At ten they would still get a pretty good player, it's not like they would be going all the way down to the 20th pick.

A lot has to do with how they have players rated on their board. If they are not real high on a certain player and feel there are players that will be there at 10 that they like just as much, they may want to add two more picks. If they feel uncomfortable with the players that would be there at ten they won't do it. We have no way of knowing the grades they gave to players on their board. It may or may not be possible, doesn't hurt to ask and find out.

You're right, Cleveland isn't going to give up picks to move up to get Tannehill. Why should they give up picks? If Tannehill falls to them they MAY POSSIBLY take him. But if he doesn't they have a great running back that they want just as much or more. They aren't going to throw draft picks away. I wouldn't go by anything beerballs says, he doesn't know jack _____.

Also, the majority of mockers have the Bills selecting Rieff or Floyd at 10...By the time draft day rolls around Rieff will slide into the mid to late round of the first round--as will Floyd!

 

Some teams have Floyd as the third best WR and Rieff is a projected RT/OG
