April Movies: American Reunion, The Raven, and The Three Stooges....

Yes, before the major tentpole titles of the Summer Season arrive the Spring Season will conclude, as the studios hope that a few gems can be found before May hits. Unlike last year the studios put all their eggs of the Spring Season basket in March, and to a large extent they found success. Now the studios will try to find alternate programming to the current juggernaut known as "The Hunger Games".

 

In 1999 Universal Studios struck gold as they gave the raunchy-teen-sex-comedy a rebirth with it's release of "American Pie". The results were tremendous as their have been plenty of similarly themed movies made since then. Now the series continues with it's fourth movie in the series, "American Reunion". Jim, Michelle, Stifler, and their friends reunite in East Great Falls, Michigan for their high school reunion. Starring Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Allyson Hannigan, Sean William Scott, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Thomas Ian Nichols & Eugene Levy.

 

John Cusack headlines "The Raven". When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works, a young Baltimore detective joins forces with Poe to stop him from making his stories a reality. Also starring Luke Evans, Alice Eve & Brendan Gleeson.

 

The Farrelly Bros. finally bring their long-in-development comedy "The Three Stooges" to the big screen.

While trying to save their childhood orphanage, Moe, Larry, and Curly inadvertently stumble into a murder plot and wind up starring in a reality TV show. Starring Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopolous & Will Sasso.

 

From Aardman Animations comes, "The Pirates! Band of Misfits". Pirate Captain sets out on a mission to defeat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz for the Pirate of the year Award. The quest takes Captain and his crew from the shores of Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Starring the voice talents of Hugh Grant, Brendan Gleeson, Jeremy Piven, Brian Blessed, Lenny Henry & Salma Hayek.

 

Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace star in "Lockout". A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.

 

In "The Cabin in the Woods", Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods. Starring Richard Jenkins, Chris Hemsworth, Bradley Whitford & Kristen Connolly.

 

Jason Segel and Emily Blunt lead "The Five-Year Engagement", a comedy that charts the ups and downs of an engaged couple's relationship.

 

Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling star in "The Lucky One". A Marine travels to North Carolina after serving three tours in Iraq and searches for the unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war.

 

Jason Statham stars in "Safe". A former elite agent takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who's been abducted by the Triads, then use a safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.

 

In "Think Like A Man", Four friends conspire to turn the tables on their women when they discover the ladies have been using Steve Harvey's relationship advice against them. Starring Chris Brown and Gabrielle Union.

 

A pair of nature documentaries are released this month.

 

From Disney comes, "Chimpanzee". A 3-year-old chimpanzee is separated from his troop and is then adopted by a fully-grown male.

 

From Warner Bros. comes, "To the Arctic 3D". A journey into the lives of a mother polar bear and her two seven-month-old cubs as they navigate the changing Arctic wilderness they call home.

 

Finally Paramount & 20th Century Fox re-release "Titanic" in 3D. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Victor Garber, Kathy Bates, Gloria Stuart & Bill Paxton.

I don't know, if I'm going to watch The Three Stooges I prefer to watch...........The Three Stooges.

Okay. I'll admit it. I saw the preview for The Three Stooges, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. The preview may be the best part of the movie, but I don't care. The three guys NAILED the impersonations.

I admit that I am somewhat interested in seeing this movie too.

 

As much as I love the old slapstick comedies, I was never as big a fan of the Stooges as other people were.

 

The preview looks very funny, of course all the funnier moments may just be in the preview.

 

It also probably helps that they got mostly unknown actors, aside from Sean Hayes, to play them.

I was a huge stooges fan when I was growing up and hated the idea of this remake.

That being said, I thought the trailer was great. Like you, I thought the actors totally nailed the impersonations.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I went and saw it yesterday. Decent continuation of the series, if you liked the first three, but nothing that "you gotta see it now" type stuff that can't wait till its out on DVD.

"Pirates: Band of Misfits" looks great. I love claymation, especially Aardman. And I need a break from Pirates of the Carribean haha. "Cabin in the Woods" looks like a nice return to the campy, cheesy, but incredibly violent slashers of the 80's that I love. Can;t wait to see it!

I saw it on friday and enjoyed it much more than I expected to. It was a nice throwback to the first two movies. Just like all the rest, Stiffler and Jim's dad were by far the best characters.
