Came across this nugget on Youtube and thought I'd share.

Two observations:

1.) Thurman was even better than you probably remember (Andre, too)

2.) About the last name that springs to mind when someone says "Super Bowl Years" is Kirby Jackson. but he had a monster trio of games as seen here.

1991 Bills Highlights

That was really the best team in franchise history except for one thing. It happened to be the single injury year of the franchise's best all time player. The skins were dominant that year but it's still a little difficult to accept that their dominance resulted from a career journeyman qb stepping out his body for a year.

So there I was, wandering the vast internet during the week of the Super Bowl two months ago and I found this from the 1990-91 Super Bowl XXV season:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZMEDfMecFE

You can see at the 3:31 mark of the above video the officials stopped the clock to review an obvious catch by receiver Keith McKeller. It was on the LAST drive of the Bills offense at the end of the game.

The announcer even said "That did give the Giants pass rush a little breather."

I think that "little breather" was exactly what the defense of the Giants needed to stop the Bills offense.

I wonder would the score of Super Bowl XXV been Bills 22/Giants 20 - if the official didn't stop the clock to have the play reviewed.

Has anyone seen this before?

well, if that happens in orchard park this year, we have the talent to win a super bowl ourselves!

Props to the editor for stopping on a Miami cheerleader at 7:14.

"climax"

Anyways, a few points...

1) it is infuriating that Andre Reed is not a hall of famer

2) If there's still anyone who doubts Thurman's HOF status, please review this tape and stfu.

3) Kelly had some great blocks

4) No one is arguing that Dan Marino is one of the greatest of all time, but he was absolutely horrible against the bills. Like, worse than Trent Edwards bad. The Bills really made him their b****

Am I the only one who thinks that CJ's running style is mildly similar to that of Thurman Thomas?

1991 Bills Highlights

Ahh they were awesome. I was a junior in high school playing ball myself and remember trying to be just like those guys. One thing I noticed that I am just starting to see with our current Bills is that If you watch those highlights, every time they made a great play almost every player would go and congratulate the player who just made a great play. It's unity that we saw with the 1991 team. I'm seeing it now with our current roster. Thats a beautiful thing and I think a great sign of things to come

Well style wise maybe but I believe C.J. is obviously faster. Maybe a little too fast for himself. He always keeps slipping on the field. After Freddy went down and C.J. took over the starting role, he got his footwork back in to a steady rhythm and is now proving why he was a first round pick.

Kirby Jackson made a lot of big plays

Thurman was ridiculous

Agree. Also Bennett was getting to the QB and running backs also. The defense in the late 80's early 90's just makes me get excited about the defense Buddy and co. have put together for this upcoming year. I just want to be known as a dominant defense. Where teams that are about to face us shake in their shoes for the hits that are about to come.

Keep in mind that there are people on this forum who've been trying to make the case that Freddie runs like Thurman.

So now if all those comparisons are accepted, Thurman, CJ, and Freddie have the same running style.

Obviously not everyone is right.

Thurman had one great ability for a small back which was staying small and protected behind his blockers in tight spaces and then bursting to daylight when it appeared.

He was a great nooks and crannies runner.

Three more:

1) Our defense was even better than I remember. Go ahead and double team Bruce Smith, hahahaha

2) What are these things we called "linebacker"? They look useful. I think we should have more of them.

3) Kelly could lay down a lick.

I think that game against the Bears Mike Ditka said in his after game press conference something like they were totally outclassed and outplayed. When he got back to Chicago he said they would have won the game if they got the ball first.

freddie runs wayyyyy more like thurman than cj.

freddie can make things happen in space between the hashmarks, and can create chaos in the middle of the field for defenders.

cj has an amazing burst if he can get to the edges, but his yards up the middle come from more of a push than finesse.

thurman/freddie - they elude. cj uses his speed.

cj reminds me of mcgahee.

Freddy's style has always reminded me of Marcus Allen… smooth, long strider, arcs his cutbacks, not herky-jerky, longer body, catches well, is effective taking the ball deep and reading the blocking.

Freddy's also been compared to Terrell Davis and I think that is also a good comparison.

CJ reminds me of one of his heroes, Warrick Dunn.

Neither player reminds me of Thurman.

JMO.
