starting a sentence with "so"

So, can we turn this into a verbal pet peeve thread?

I drives me freaking nuts to have someone say "Be that as it may..." I had a boss that used that all the time, usually he was shooting down a recommendation.

Me: "But it will work boss."

Him: "Be that as it may we aren't going to do it."

Me: "That option costs way too much."

Him: "Be that as it may we're going to spend it."

Me: "But we beat our profit plan by over 200%, our comp payout should be $X."

Him: "Be that as it may we have decided that $Y is fair."

i only hear that occasionally. on it's own, the phrase doesn't make much sense but i get what it means. "we're going to do that anyway or regardless" seems better.

The thing that annoys me most is this "You know what I'm saying?"

"I went to the store. You know what I'm saying?" No, I don't - can you please slow that down and explain it to me.

I used to answer every time, until I realized that it's not even a question.

So I says to myself, I says self.......

The habitual and slovenly overuse of the word okay grates on me. Some people insert it into their speech like salt on mac and cheese.

So I says to my self, I says "So, self, okay, do you know what I'm saying?"

That's called "axeing" myself a question. :w00t:

My wife and I hate the overuse of amazing. We were on a tour bus on Friday and this girl was using it sometimes three times in sentence.

"I went to this amazing Italian restaurant with amazing service that had this amazing pasta dish."

And their waiter was a "hero"...
