The Cincinnati Kid Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 (edited) So, of the 17, which 8 would you cut? DEs Mark Anderson Danny Batten Lionel Dotson Robert Eddins (Sorry, I forgot to post him initially...human error...) Spencer Johnson Chris Kelsay Shawne Marriman Kyle Moore Mario Williams Alex Carrington DTs Marcell Dareus Dwan Edwards Jarron Gilbert Kellen Heard Jay Ross Torell Troup Kyle Williams Edited March 21, 2012 by The Cincinnati Kid
d_wag Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 DEs Mario Williams (K) Mark Anderson (K) Chris Kelsay (K) Shawne Marriman (K) Alex Carrington (K) Danny Batten © Lionel Dotson © Spencer Johnson © Kyle Moore © DTs Kyle Williams (K) Marcell Dareus (K) Torell Troup (K) Kellen Heard (K) Dwan Edwards © Jarron Gilbert © Jay Ross © this is assuming no training camp injures, which is probably wishful thinking - shaping up to be some great competition as guys like troup, heard, and carrington will need to show alot to keep their jobs

With guys coming off injuries (K.Williams, and Merriman) not good to leave yourself to thin. Plus with the way Wanny wants his 4 dlinemen to win one on one's, you need fresh guys rotating in often. Could maybe keep Johnson and cut Batten? I cut Johnson because of salary. Batten did play some OLB last year too, right? So maybe more flexible player/ST. Edited March 21, 2012 by atlbillsfan1975
justnzane Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 FWIW I'd consider Batten an OLB in 4-3 as he'd be closer to ideal size for that position and less ideal as a DE.
The Cincinnati Kid Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 I did not agree with all the positions that the players were listed as, but I took all this information from the Bills website.

And this is if we dont draft any DEs. However, Im not sure Merriman makes it through camp healthy. Same can be said for Troup. And I could see Kelsay being a cap casualty, but who knows, the Bills seem to love him. Batten probably doesnt make it, but he's good on Special Teams. EDIT: Batten as an OLB definitely makes the team. Got it down to 10. Edited March 21, 2012 by DrDareustein

Barring injury, that's our final roster on the DLine
NewEra Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Good bye Danny Batten. I think his term with the bills is up. I'd keep: DE: Mario, Anderson, Merriman, Kelsey and carrington. At DT I'd keep: Dareus, Williams, Spencer Johnson and either troupe or heard. Good to know we don't have to draft ANY defensive lineman. Not saying we won't, but I wouldn't be surprised if we bypassed the position.
papazoid Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 So, of the 17, which 8 would you cut? i would keep 6 (3 DE's & 3 DT's )and cut the rest. i just freed up + $20 mil/yr in cap. go sign 3 more $7 mil/yr players. DEs Mark Anderson KEEP Danny Batten who ? isn't he a LB Lionel Dotson who ? Robert Eddins who ? Spencer Johnson CUT Chris Kelsay CUT Shawne Marriman CUT Kyle Moore who ? Mario Williams KEEP Alex Carrington KEEP (only cause he's cheap). DTs Marcell Dareus KEEP Dwan Edwards CUT Jarron Gilbert who ? Kellen Heard KEEP Jay Ross who ? Torell Troup CUT Kyle Williams KEEP

billsfan89 Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Bills will likely keep Dareus, and K.Williams will of course be the starters at DT. Troup and S.Johnson will likely be the incumbents at the two backups but Heard, D.Edwards and who ever else will be given a legit shot to unseat either guy. Mario Williams, Anderson, and Kelsay will be the top 3 DE's while Carrington will be the incumbent at the 4th DE. Merriman will likely be a flex DE/OLB type player. Lots of volume but the quality is about 7-8 guys so the concerns of too much is more so about the last couple spots.

Captain Hindsight Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 DE Williams Anderson Kelsey Carrington Merriman Moore ( I watched him closely at the end of the year, kid has some talent) DT Williams Dareus Troup Heard Though i could be entirely wrong

That wouldn't make any sense either. while you are probably correct that neither will be cut....they both should be. keep getting conflicting details on merrimans contract.... but, merriman who cant stay healthy has $500,000 of dead money according to the link below... and troup, who just plain sucks would cost $1,000,000 of dead money. http://www.nyjetscap.com/Bills/bills2012.php
timba Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 There are 10 players listed that I would keep. DE Mario Williams Mark Anderson Chris Kelsay Shawne Merriman DT Marcell Dareus Kyle Williams Torell Troup Kellen Heard DE/DT Alex Carrington Spencer Johnson If the Bills intend to be as aggressive with the front 4 as they are implying, they are going to need a lot of bodies to stay fresh.
NewEra Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 1332376763[/url]' post='2418065']Merriman is guaranteed $3mil of his $4mil salary so he's probably not getting cut. Troupe isn't getting cut either. That wouldn't make any sense either. I agree about Merriman, but ya never know about troupe. It makes sense to keep him, but we aren't the ones coaching him and evaluating him day in day out. He hasn't shown me anything to date (literally nothing), if he comes into camp and doesn't impress, good bye.
DreamOnDan Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I would be really surprised if Buffalo cut Dwan Edwards. He should be a great 3 technique DT and if they plan on playing a hybrid 3/4 look at times, that would give them another great reason to keep him. Spencer Johnson is gone before Edwards and I think as of right now Edwards is the 3rd DT. He should provide a good pass rush from the inside
Doc Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Merriman could be considered with the OLB's. He's not getting cut. But I agree that keeping Moore would be wise.
