Isn't this classic manslaughter in any state before the NRA started pushing this "arms race" of a law called "stand your ground?"<br /><br />Too bad Martin did not have a gun and shot first his stalker and harasser, couldn't he have applied applied that abortion of a law.<br /><br /><br />How would that have worked out for a black kid in FLA?<br /><br />Short first and ask questions later, the burden is not on the shooter one bit... Actually, the law has to give them the benefit of doubt.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I know for one with me... I never thought it a hate crime.  I do think that race alone raised suspicion.<br /><br />It takes two to tango.

I know...it was primarily BF-squared and lybob (I think) that were arguing that the DoJ was involved on grounds of "equal protection" because the ENTIRE TOWN was racist. :wallbash:

Speaking of abortions... Can somebody tell me how to fix the mobile board!

Please, someone tell him! Please!

O.M.G. The point I was trying to make in my posts was that the DoJ should be involved at that point because it looked like an obvious racial killing. Regardless of whether or not it was media hype. Had this story never blown up they way it did the DoJ would never have gotten involved and this would have gone down as a racial killing rather than someone killing someone else because they were getting their ass kicked.

Was I making them, or was the media reporting them? That's my point. A light was shined on the case and now we have more facts don't we.

Then stfu until you actually know something. And stop making assumptions based on incomplete reporting.

We've seen this before time and time again, where someone is involved in a crime, their facebook page pictures are changed from the standard "gangster look with the baseball cap, flashing cash, and maybe showing a gun" to "little Johnny singing in the church choir" picture. I'm not saying that Trayvon had those kinds of pictures, just hoping to add to your point about the family is involved in what pictures are released to the media.

Agreed.

And it makes some sense. The family will naturally want their loved one seen in the light most favorable to them.

But I also think that the family wants the images that are looped, and re-looped to be ones that have a poignance and an deep affection to them.

When was there ever evidence this was racially motivated?

If the incident itself wasn't, the response certainly has been.

From my perspective:

White folks seem to have either said that Zimmerman's innocent, or they've said let the judicial process take it's course and arrive at a fair determination.

Black folks seem to be almost entirely of the opinion that Zimmerman has already been adjudicated and was found "guilty." No real trial. No due process.

The irony is that for hundreds of years black folks fought for due process under the law - especially in states that traditionally usurped that kind of fair and institutionalized jurisprudence. It really should be black folks who are at the proverbial head of the "give the man a fair trial" class.

Dear liberals,

I hope as I write these words you are all enjoying a tasty plate of crow. For me personally this situation has been a source of great enlightenment and understanding as well as misanthropy. I have witnessed a nationwide lynchmob arise over a great leap to a far conclusion demanding the head of a man who appears now to be innocent & a police department that appears now to have done its job. I saw the national media, those who the bulk of the population trust to keep them informed, willfully misrepresent a story to manufacture the controversy with no regard for the consequences. I saw the President of the United States encourage and enflame the bloodthirsty mob. So what have we learned from all this?

We've learned that liberals believe that anytime a black person is hurt or killed by a non-black person that person is both racist and guilty until proven otherwise.

Liberals look for and see racism everywhere it can exist; it is their default explanation.

If you see someone acting suspiciously do not call the cops & if you do call the cops certainly don't follow the person to see where he's going, ESPECIALLY if he's black. If he notices you and attacks you it's your fault for upsetting him and we'll assume without question that the only reason he looked suspicious is because he's black & you're a racist.

Taking a logical approach to a situation and waiting for the facts is racist.

It is appropriate for the DoJ to pursue isolated local crimes any time baseless claims of racism are thrown around.

If you shoot someone who is smashing your head against the ground make sure he doesn't have any !@#$ing Skittles.

Obama is a shameless race-obsessed 60s radical wannabe who sees the world through the prism of "us v. them." (okay, we already knew this, but now we can prove it).

Liberals have lost a lot of credibility here. I see some of you grasping at straws to save face but it's not working. Just eat your crow & get it over with. You're collectively the little boy who cried racism. The sad part, & the one that I'm struggling with internally to try to justify a fading belief in the good of humanity, is that most of you have learned nothing from this.

A prosecutor told me today (in an unrelated conversation) to look at an article about someone accused of sexual abuse & then read the comments. Many are very detailed accusations attributing motives to the accuser as well as the accused and all are based on nothing more than the five sentence blurb above. That's what we've seen here.

Did your pea brain ever consider that maybe it wasn't an 'obvious racial killing' to the people who were actually investigating the case?

The DOJ should act based on the media popularity of events? Or to provide 'evidence' to ignorant lynch mobs members like you?

"Zimmerman has been in hiding since the debate about the killing ramped up. The New Black Panthers put out a $10,000 bounty on his head after its leader Mikhail Muhammed told a rally on Saturday He should be fearful for his life. You cant keep killing black children.

Movie director Spike Lee revealed Zimmermans home address in a Twitter message he retweeted to his quarter of a million followers at the weekend.

Last week President Barack Obama jumped into the case saying if he had a son he would look like Trayvon.

Skittles, ice tea, and woman's jewelry.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/26/2714778/thousands-expected-at-trayvon.html

According to the report, on Oct. 21 staffers monitoring a security camera at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School spotted Trayvon and two other students writing “W.T.F.,” an acronym for “What the f---,” on a hallway locker, according to schools police. The security employee, who knew Trayvon, confronted the teen and looked through his bag for the graffiti marker.

Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described the screwdriver as a burglary tool.

Trayvon was asked if the jewelry, which was mostly women’s rings and earrings, belonged to his family or a girlfriend.

“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,” according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend.

School police impounded the jewelry and sent photos of the items to detectives at Miami-Dade police for further investigation.

“Martin was suspended, warned and dismissed for the graffiti,” according to the report prepared by Miami-Dade Schools Police.

That suspension was followed four months later by another one, in February, in which Trayvon was caught with an empty plastic bag with traces of marijuana in it, the boy’s family’s attorney has confirmed. A schools police report obtained by The Miami Herald specifies two items: a bag with marijuana residue and a “marijuana pipe.”

The suspension was the third for the teen. On Monday, the family also acknowledged Trayvon had earlier been suspended for tardiness and truancy.

I agree with what you are saying, and have been appalled by the lynch mob skittle thing over the last several days.

But, I've also been busy and am not sure if I missed something. Is there anything for the mobsters to eat crow about yet or is it the accumulation of this and that that you are pointing to?

While it looks like Zimmerman did act in self-defense, he created the situation by pursuing Martin, against the wishes of the dispatcher.

I was referring somewhat to the accumulation but primarily to the link Jack posted.

So I'm picking up today that Spike Lee has tweeted Zimmerman's home address, and it's being re-tweeted over and over and over by his tens of thousands of followers.

Simultaneously, the New Black Panthers are offering $10,000 to anyone willing to kill Zimmerman.

I'm sure this will end well.

That tidbit is helpful in painting a picture but in the grand scheme of things it's relatively inconsequential. The dispatcher's advice is in no way binding upon him, nor did he issue a command, just told him he didn't need to do that.

Suppose you see someone acting suspicious and you're worried he might be a predator. Calling the cops and tailing the guy to let the cops know where he's going could save someone from getting raped or killed. The guy getting tailed might not like it and could call the cops himself and say there's a creepy guy following him. He doesn't have the right to attack someone for following him and it doesn't forclose the follower's right to defend himself if attacked.

A few months ago a strange guy was on my friend's neighbor's porch after 2 am peering through the window. I approached him and asked him who he was looking for and why he was there. I was also locked and loaded at the time. It turns out he was up to no good so we called the cops. I don't believe I invited him to attack me.

A racially charged group putting a bounty on someone's life? It's a good thing the DOJ knows better than to get involved in this. That would really be out of bounds.
