Wasn't that our strategy before this year anyway? Think of team building as a mosaic, rather than just one part of the painting. One off-season doesn't make the whole painting.

Definitely.

I just think we need another off season of acquiring solid mid level guys, hopefully this season goes well and we have room next year to improve even further. :)

Well today we're a better football team and I personally can't wait for the draft. Last year was a historic draft year for us Bills. We got Marcell Dareus, Aaron Williams (who I think deserves to start), Kelvin Sheppard, Da'Norris Searcy (who this year will be implicated in a better role), Chris Hairston and Justin Rogers (return specialist for this upcoming year).

If this year we draft half as good as we did last year? Oh man. I'm excited...

Gallery is a good interior depth signing, bills need to copycat and get Jason Brown in the door. Backup C is still a problem - we don't need a repeat of last year, now is the time to address.

It'll be interesting to see how their strategy works compared to ours. They seem to be investing in a wide range of solid players that can be had for relatively little money. While we put all of our eggs in one big knocking Marcia on her ass basket.

Fixed :)

Other than the size of the contract, there really isn't much difference in what we've done. Sign a few FAs, build through the draft.

Woods injury was pretty serious football wise, if he cant return to form we may need a starting center. Chan said in interview they will not be looking for a RB and probably not a center either

Who cares about marginal players when the core like Brady, light and wilfork are getting older and slower. I used to be a big fan of Brady's capabilities but Im starting to see signs he's losing his touch. Even he apologized for his performance in the afc champ game and was nothing special in the super bowl. Brady losing some arm strength and accuracy is a big problem because of how immobile he is. Id be willing to bet a tidy sum this years super bowl was his last.

So this is Moneyball in reverse? The small market team signs the big FA, while the big market signs more role players.

That one player instantly boosts our entire defense. If Mario doesn't make the Pro Bowl, I could easily see Dareus and/or K. Williams making it. And that would likely be because of Mario's presence.

If they stay healthy no reason 2 can't make it. And if 2 make it you have a kick butt DLine with stats !

figured it was a slow news day.....other than peyton and tebow.....

The New England Patriots on Monday reached agreement with free-agent tight end Daniel Fells on a three-year deal that could be worth up to $7 million, according to a source. The contract includes $2 million in bonuses and guarantees, with a minimum total value of $5.25 million, the source said. It maxes out at $7 million if all incentives are reached. He spent 2008-10 with the Rams before joining the Denver Broncos in 2011.

He will be the sixth free agent the team has signed from other clubs, joining Jonathan Fanene (Cincinnati Bengals), Steve Gregory (San Diego Chargers), Trevor Scott (Oakland Raiders), Anthony Gonzalez (Indianapolis Colts) and Brandon Lloyd (St. Louis Rams).

Like I said on a previous post, -We're BONED.

Bellitricks is using a rich blend of experience and talent to groom the STUD DE's he's going to draft next month. -Guranteed. We shot our load with one DE, and are now FAST ASLEEP. This is not good, people. The worst part is that we still haven't taken care of Fred Jackson. I know, I know, -no rush. But why wouldn't we give our best player peace of mind going into the new season?

I really like the Mario signing. Still, watching ALL of our eggs get loaded into his basket makes me a tad uneasy.

They picked 2 outside free agents that they felt would upgrade the team, and sign the big one. The other got a huge offer from another team. They resigned all their own free agents that they like, and are known quantities. They have virtually turned the entire roster over in a couple years, and now have the guys they drafted in their preceding drafts, worked into starting lineup. They also select in the top portion of each round in the coming draft.

I think they are doing a great job building the team. I would rather have our roster/draft situation (excluding QB) than the Pat's. Every team in the league has holes to fill.

That brandon lloyd signing along with robert gallery are sliding under the radar but they're both big signings in my eyes. Lloyd has really good hands and is a pure receiver which they have been lacking. Gallery can pretty much line up anywhere on the offensive line too, I would've like to have seen Buffalo make a move on him but i'll take Mario Williams. Oh yeah they got anthony gonzalez too, not too sure about him, he's pretty injury prone.

I have to say Mathew I am impressed with your answer. I agree 100%.

I tend to think of you as a Glass half empty kind of guy or a self proclaimed "realist." I find your answer surprising, I feel a new dawn in Buffalo Bills history is approaching.

Nix has addressed the Jackson issue, you're not paying attention.

The players that NE is signing are not upgrading their roster. At best, they are players that will maintain the status quo on the offensive side of the ball but they are still behind where they were 2 years ago. Oddly enough, that's not really NE's problem, their problem is that they can't stop anyone yet they seem intent to continue to ignore the defense or fill holes with has-beens.

With one signing, Buffalo managed to improve it's entire defense. Not only will life on the defensive line improve for everyone, but the linebackers will be free to run and the secondary won't have to cover guys for 6 seconds.

With one signing Buffalo addressed it's most glaring off-season need and created a potential defensive nightmare for everyone they play this year. We now have three defensive linemen that require two offensive lineman or help from a back or TE. That alters the game plan for every team we play.

New England will be a lot less intimidating when Gronkowski and Welker are stuck in the backfield trying to keep Marcel, Kyle and Mario from killing Tom Brady. God help them if Merriman returns to form. !@#$ New England.

Oh, and one more thing, free agency isn't over, there are cuts to come and we still get to draft so lets not panic just yet.

And one more thing, it was just reported this morning that Logan Mankins has a torn ACL. Good luck getting him back back camp.

Sounds like the offensive line that Brady has been so comfortable behind may be seeing some serious turnover in the near future. And just in time to have to game plan for one of the best DEs in the game and two fine DTs. Light and Waters considering retirement and Mankins undergoing ACL surgery, like Mike stated above. What did Marv say about retirement? Thats not too good of a start to shaking off the post Super Bowl loss hangover.

What's your point?

That list of "Free Agents" looks like they got them from the typical garbage bin that Buffalo picks through, save Lloyd.

Gallery the offensive lineman is real good. His team just couldn't afford to resign him.

They are kind of a step behind in recent years as far as recruiting. Last year we added barnett, pears, and chandler, all who did well for us. And the pats added haynesworth and ochocinco, which did nothing. There was a time the pats could turn scrubs into all pros, but I think they have been off lately.

Plus we don't have all our eggs in one basket. We can still sign others and we still have the draft. Plently more resources to continue building.

The Bills haven't been in the playoffs this entire century. How's their way of building working for ya' ?? LOL The Bills have been rebuilding for TWENTY years and will continue for another 20. LOL

New England is the model all NFL teams should be copying. They have been a playoff team it seems like FOREVER, maybe even longer!!

I wish the Bills would get a step behind, the Pats were in the superbowl AGAIN! One dropped pass from winning it.

Except for in 2009, when they didn't go to the playoffs. And the fact they haven't won a SB since being discovered as cheaters. And signing FA's that are over the hill or projects.

But besides that, model team

How would you know? Judging by the rest of your post and your understanding of NFL history, you haven't been alive for that long.
