papazoid Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 (edited) figured it was a slow news day.....other than peyton and tebow..... The New England Patriots on Monday reached agreement with free-agent tight end Daniel Fells on a three-year deal that could be worth up to $7 million, according to a source. The contract includes $2 million in bonuses and guarantees, with a minimum total value of $5.25 million, the source said. It maxes out at $7 million if all incentives are reached. He spent 2008-10 with the Rams before joining the Denver Broncos in 2011. He will be the sixth free agent the team has signed from other clubs, joining Jonathan Fanene (Cincinnati Bengals), Steve Gregory (San Diego Chargers), Trevor Scott (Oakland Raiders), Anthony Gonzalez (Indianapolis Colts) and Brandon Lloyd (St. Louis Rams). http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/7708463/2012-nfl-free-agency-daniel-fells-expected-sign-new-england-patriots-source-said EDIT: Report: Patriots agree to deal with Robert Gallery http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/19/report-patriots-agree-to-deal-with-robert-gallery/ Edited March 19, 2012 by papazoid
Dorkington Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 It'll be interesting to see how their strategy works compared to ours. They seem to be investing in a wide range of solid players that can be had for relatively little money. While we put all of our eggs in one big basket.

Wasn't that our strategy before this year anyway? Think of team building as a mosaic, rather than just one part of the painting. One off-season doesn't make the whole painting.
Doc Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Good to see they're loading-up on offense. Because that was their problem last year.

That list of "Free Agents" looks like they got them from the typical garbage bin that Buffalo picks through, save Lloyd.
It's in My Blood Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Kind of surprising that they've not added meaningful defensive help.
DanInUticaTampa Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 They are kind of a step behind in recent years as far as recruiting. Last year we added barnett, pears, and chandler, all who did well for us. And the pats added haynesworth and ochocinco, which did nothing. There was a time the pats could turn scrubs into all pros, but I think they have been off lately. Plus we don't have all our eggs in one basket. We can still sign others and we still have the draft. Plently more resources to continue building.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Good to see they're loading-up on offense. Because that was their problem last year. Well Mrs Brady did point out that her hubby can not throw AND catch the ball!!! Maybe NE knows they better keep her happy!!!
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Mr. Fells? Meet Mr. Mario Williams. You'll be trying to chip block him. Trying.

Not to mention all of the guys that we retained, ie. anyone of consequence besides Bell and B. scott and neither of them have signed elsewhere yet.
Punch Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 (edited) Make it 7: Robert Gallery. Michael Lombardi @michaelombardi So to recap correctly, Laron Landry has agreed to a contract with the NY Jets and the Pats agreed with offensive lineman Robert Gallery Edited March 19, 2012 by Punch
BillsWatch Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Maybe Pats are going with one WR, four TE sets.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Oh man, Gallery is such a turnstile in pass protection its not even funny. Still, he's a very good masher and should clear the way for the running game of...whoever in the heck New England decides to put back there this season.
Meark Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Whoooaaa.. wait a minute.. They were saying on the TV networks that good teams don't need a sign a bunch of free agents in the off season.. Good teams allegedly only need a slightly offset their draft with one or two free agents.. That's what I have been hearing for a couple weeks on the NFL channel.. So I take it this means the Pats aren't a good team since they need to sign so many FA's? Good teams build through the draft.. or so we've been told..
EasternOHBillsFan Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Here's another tidbit... http://dc.sbnation.com/washington-redskins/2011/10/30/2525865/redskins-vs-bills-laron-landry-london-fletcher-sideline-argument More of these kinds of arguments on the Pats sideline, please!
papazoid Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 What's your point? That list of "Free Agents" looks like they got them from the typical garbage bin that Buffalo picks through, save Lloyd. buddy is asleep....ralph is cheap......etc... March 19, 2012: Bills re-signed WR Derek Hagan. March 15, 2012: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports via his Twitter that Mario Williams will be given a six-year deal from the Bills. He reports that the contract is worth up to $100 million dollars with $50 million guaranteed. March 13, 2012: ProFootballTalk is reporting that DE Mario Williams and WR Robert Meachem will visit the Bills tonight. March 12, 2012: According to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com, the Bills have given qualifying tender offers to RFA offensive linemen Chad Rinehart and Kraig Urbik. March 9, 2012: Bills signed LB Kirk Morrison to a two-year, $3 million contract. Another $1 million is available through incentives. March 8, 2012: Bills signed TE Scott Chandler to a two-year deal. No financial terms released as of yet. March 7, 2012: Mark Ludwiczak CBSSports.com is reporting that the Bills have signed wide receiver Ruvell Martin to a one-year contract for $700,000. March 5, 2012: Bills signed WR Steve Johnson to a five-year contract for $36.25 million. The deal includes $19.5 million guaranteed, and will pay Johnson over $24 million from 2012-2014. 1/6/12: Buffalo Bills signed seven future free agent signings. They were: LB Scott McKillop, DT Jay Ross, G Jake Vermiglio, LB Robert Eddins, CB Prince Miller, WR David Clowney and G Keith Williams. 1/30/12: Bills signed LS Garrison Sanborn to a three-year contract extension. 2/7/12: Bills signed K Rian Lindell to a four-year contract extension. 2/22/12: Bills CB Terrence McGee's (patella tendon surgery) "restructured" contract is actually a brand new two-year deal.As opposed to a restructuring, McGee lowered each of his final two base salaries and received a $300,000 signing bonus. His 2012 salary is now $1.35 million, and McGee can make $1.75 million in salary in 2013. Per Scout.com's Aaron Wilson, McGee will earn just over $4 million if he makes the Bills' roster in both seasons. Now being paid like a nickel back, McGee's 2012 salary cap number was lowered from $6.3 million this year to $3.78 million.
John from Riverside Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Keep adding wide outs patriots......its gonna be hard for WR's to catch the ball with the QB on his @ss
Doc Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 (edited) Signed Donte Stallworth too Seriously? LOL! Like that wasn't a disaster back when he was "in his prime." Although this isn't surprising. They did have 20 players they needed to add and not a lot of cap space. No doubt they had hoped to get Welker signed to a long-term deal to free up a significant portion of the $9.4M he's costing them. Edited March 19, 2012 by Doc
