Wow, very surreal watching that. I remember having it on in the background when I was a kid....I was at home, and all of a sudden I hear my dad yelling in the other room..."the damn thing blew up!" I was shocked, to say the least. When you're a kid (I was about 13) you can't really fathom that something like that could actually happen.

I was 24 years old and couldn't fathom it. I was actually sick. I called in to work that day and told them I couldn't work which is VERY unusual for me.

It is still very painful to watch. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I had gotten off work early and was sitting on the end of my bed watching the launch live. Sad day.

President Reagan's Address

 

Say what you want about the man's politics but he knew how to talk to the country and the world.

 

Peggy Noonan wrote that speech. When it was suggested by another staffer he change the "touch the face of God" line - I believe Peggy threaten to kill him. haha
