filthymcnasty08 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Fred Jackson for Osi - straight up. Would you do it? For the GMEN: They want more production out of the RB's - Freddy lets them focus on OL upgrades - he's proven that he can run behind the worst OL's They can unload Jacobs contract - they do not want to pay him. They recoup major value for the loss of OSI They do not have to re-sign Osi and pay him starter $ to be a pass rush specialist. Freddy is a better fit for a "win now" team - most Bills fans would be happy for him if he landed there. GMEN have the $ to dish for the RB position - not DE Freddy/Ahmad/Nicks/Cruz/Eli/TE in the 1st Rd - uhhhh wow. For the Bills: Have to give OSI a new contract to start. Instantaneous upgrade to the pass rush - problem solved for 3-5 years. Allows Bills to draft and develop younger DE talent behind him Comes from a culture of winning. The young/talented bills D could use a veteran leadership figure. A player like that, who commands attention from the OC's, gives the rest of the D a chance to make plays! Alleviates the need to break the bank for Mario - Osi not cheap to resign but no way he gets $ on par with Mario. Bills can reconsider their draft/free agency signings (I dream for an RG3 move here) CJ gets to be the man (fingers crossed) We have $ to invest in DE way more than RB This never happens in the NFL but I this would be a win/win as far as I can see. Some great football minds on this board, would love to hear some thoughts. Happy Friday!!
Danny Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Maybe I'm just too much of a fred jackson fan- but to me it looks like the giants come out way ahead on this one. Wouldn't it be better if the Bills just spent the money they'd have to give Osi on a free agent rusher and get to keep FJ as well?
Maddog69 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 No. A team does not get better by patching one hole and making another one. Getting rid of Freddy would weaken the Offense. CJ is good but the Bills are better with CJ and Freddy together. Keep Freddy and add a DE. If NYG wants to trade Osi, send them Carrington and a 2nd rd pick.
JPS Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Good thread. I think RBs are easier to find and we have a replacement, so why wouldn't you trade a RB on the wrong side of 30 for an elite pass rusher?? Freddy is a good story, but he's an asset. If that asset can be used in a way to make this team better as a whole, DO IT!!!

Captain Hindsight Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Im not sure why everyone wants to dump an MVP candidate from a just a few months ago....
thebug Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Im not sure why everyone wants to dump an MVP candidate from a just a few months ago.... Only if he is replaced by a possible MVP candidate in a position of greater need.
Danny Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I'd like to add that we all know how important a running game is to a teams success. For a team who blamed a lot on lack of depth last year.. It might not be the wisest move to diminish the teams greatest strength. If we trade Fred and Spiller goes down, there goes the season.
filthymcnasty08 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Couple more points This move will net you more cap room than keeping Freddy and signing a FA for the DE position I think we could late rd. draft/acquire RB depth behind CJ with relative ease. YES, we lose a lot on the RB side, and take a calculated gamble, but we gain every bit of it on the other side of the ball (and more). Would kill to see KW/Dareus crush pockets with an OSI coming off the edge. More value for your dollar with Osi - given our glaring areas of need.
Captain Hindsight Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 The reason player for player trades rarely happen is teams hate giving away talented players. For the 1 time in years we have a great RB and very good one backing him up, When Freddy went down Spiller was good, but Fred owned the league. If i were the giants id take this deal in a heartbeat. They become instantly better, Bradshaw and Jacobs arent even in the same league as Freddy

Alleviates the dullness of the NFL off season pre-draft/FA.
qwksilver Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Of all the stupid cockamamie ideas on this board, this one's not so bad. Hey at least its not a peyton or a new mock draft thread. Thanks 4 thinking outside the box.
Dorkington Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I'm uncomfortable with the trade simply because I don't know what RB depth we would be able to get after FJ is gone. CJ is good, imo, but I also have suspicions about his reliability both in play and health (due to size). Is he an every down back yet? Can he block? Can he get 3 yards when there is no hole?
section122 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 If i were the giants id take this deal in a heartbeat. They become instantly better, Bradshaw and Jacobs arent even in the same league as Freddy I would say Bradshaw is comparable to Freddy. I will say that I think Freddy is better but not leaps and bounds. Jacobs if he put forth the effort would be but he doesn't so he isn't (not sure if that statement even makes sense lol)
filthymcnasty08 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 It's a shame that it's a complete rarity/non-event In this case, we solve a tremendous need issue without blowing out our cap(Mario). Yes we thin out a skill position but we were below abysmal at rushing the QB.....now we may have Peyton 2 x a year with the fins to go with Brady. As hard as it is would be to say goodbye to Freddy, we're a more complete team as a result of this deal (that will never happen). With the would-be Fred $ going to Osi, we would essentially have the ability to add another mid-high range FA and then let BPA value talent fall to us in the draft.
I hate the Bills ! Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Easier to find a RB than a Solid pass rusher, sure I do it in a minute !
Bufcomments Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) No to this trade even though it was a good thread. Fred was having any MVP type season before he got hurt. Osi not so much. CJ although has improved but not enough to let Fred go. Edited March 9, 2012 by Bufcomments

NewEra Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Never trade your best player unless the guy/guys you get will be your best player/players. No. Never.
bowery4 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I like Fred too much to do this. I understand the "it's a business and all that but you keep your best players, period. Which I also think is why the giants wouldn't do this if we did propose it anyway. They will find a way not to lose Osi.
