Wayne Cubed Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Idk if I would go so far as to call him a snitch and a rat, but he's definitely looking for attention, seeing as 2 of the main articles on ESPN are about him. Either that or ESPN is looking to glorify him and the entire situation.

KD in CA Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) This Bounty Gate has been blown out proportion, if there wasn't money involved the NFL wouldn't care, What was Al Davis Line "the other teams QB must go down & go down Hard", how much money did the NFL make of of those Hardest Hits videos, they advertise the violence you never see greatest TD runs videos the NFL knew this was going on, it has for decades, Buddy Ryan, Jerry Glanville, Jimmy Johnson to name a few had bounty system, do fans care about this Hell No but the media got to have a story to go on about I hate Greg Williams, the minute he was named Bills coach I hated him but to suspend him for a year for a bounty system & you slapped the wrist of Belichick for cheating now thats a HUGE PILE of BS I couldn't agree more. I can't believe how many people here are taking the opportunity to revel in there faux 'outrage' over this story. Do people honestly think this is a unique situation or that bounties haven't been put on opponents -- formally or informally -- since the dawn of football? Gimmie a break; I remember hearing bounty rumors back in high school. As for the NFL scapegoating Williams, that's exactly right. That's our society now -- once the media decides to paint something as negative, someone needs to be held up as the bad guy to protect the system. Edited March 9, 2012 by KD in CT

NoSaint Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 A media outlet trying to manufacture interest, particularly during an offseason, noooooooooooo well, he does have a new book coming out soon (atleast i think i heard this coupled with his name coming up in this mess)

Imma bout to put a bounty on the next mutha f**ka that does not refer to me as Mr. Wire or Former AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. I went to Stanford - show some damn respect.

stevewin Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) In think what people are missing is that even though Williams didn't stand up and publicly announce bounties in the locker room (which would have been really stupid), he could have still influenced the (alleged) "players only" pool for bounties by pulling a few key players aside and influencing it that way (letting it take it's course as a 'players only' thing from there - with plausible deniability on his direct role). His tennesee buddy Eddie Robinson would be suspect number one as far as I'm concerned. Jerry Gray also came over from Tenn. Did he not? I'm actually surprised I haven't seen anything come out with any connection to his previous time in Tenn. It seems to me there would be a good chance he started all this there as DC. Oh - and by the way, just for old times - Coy Wire Sucks. IMO one of the worst position players to ever wear a Bills uniform. Was there a bounty program for jumping out of pools? Was there a bounty program for jumping out of pools? right now you also have to remember some of these guys are willing to admit stuff was going on but dont want to expose themselves to too much in the way of either backlash or punishment. For Coy he admits a very minor version of whats been alleged, gets his name out there, but doesnt throw people too far under the bus still and really doesnt open himself up to any tax issues even (with payment coming from the actual team). im not a tax expert by any means but wouldnt this constitute small bets that wouldnt be declared as income as opposed to a bonus coming from an employer? it could be a subtle but HUGE difference in what guys are willing to say publicly about all this.
Delete This Account Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) It's called: "Change Your Mind: 10 Unconventional Secrets to Retrain Your Brain" It was referred to in Tim Graham's Buffalo News article a few days ago, in which he explicitly contradicts what is reported in the above ESPN article concerning whether or not Gregg Williams was involved in the bounty rewards: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article747663.ece uhhh, that's not an ESPN article. it's an AP story posted on the ESPN website. also, the reason this is a story is because the NFL is investigating whether Williams ran bounties with any of his former teams. as for using bounties, the way it was described with the Saints, it crosses the line in making the NFL a bloodsport. as numerous players have told me, there is enough violence in football to create injuries without anyone needing to actually target hurting a specific player. bounties take the bretheren out of brotherhood and good sportsmanship, and make the game look more like it's video cousin than real life. to target someone's livelihood in such a vicious manner is wrong. Wire admits and regrets playing a part in that, even though his hit on James Stewart was legal and he was never "rewarded" for it. nothing wrong with having a conscience and owning up to it, even if it's after the fact, book or no book. jw Edited March 9, 2012 by john wawrow
Max997 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 So what did our Defensive roster look like back then, and who could have been running the bounties?? London Fletcher Pat Williams Eddie Robinson Nate Clements Antoine Winfield Aaron Schobel Chidi Ahanotu Ron Edwards Keith Newman Any of those guys? Man, if I remember right, they must not have been making much from the bounties anyways... Eddie Robinson should have donated a game check for getting juked like that by Pennington
BuffaloBillsSD Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Per tweets from Tim Graham it looks like Coy has been changing his story. IMO he is trying to use up his last 15 seconds of fame.

DrDawkinstein Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Eddie Robinson should have donated a game check for getting juked like that by Pennington That is, unfortunately, one of my most vivid and unforgettable memories of the Bills. Luckily, I have many other memories from 1989-1997 as well.

Did he not specifically state that there were monetary rewards for such hits in Tim Graham's original piece? And now he's backing off of that claim? If he now insists Gregg Williams was not involved then why did he come forward in the first place? I didn't click on the click in the OP, I only noted it is directed from ESPN.com. I'm not trying to deny the Associated Press it's credit. Per tweets from Tim Graham it looks like Coy has been changing his story. IMO he is trying to use up his last 15 seconds of fame.
