SageAgainstTheMachine
Something I've always wondered...how did the term "co-ed" come to refer to a college woman? Doesn't it, by definition, imply either gender?
The Poojer
I'd imagine it has something to do with the early days of allowing women into, until then, male colleges Something I've always wondered...how did the term "co-ed" come to refer to a college woman? Doesn't it, by definition, imply either gender?

ExiledInIllinois
Something I've always wondered...how did the term "co-ed" come to refer to a college woman? Doesn't it, by definition, imply either gender? WOW... Your young age is showing! Many moons ago... In a male dominant society... Woman could not attend higher education. In response, "woman's colleges" were formed. Those were formed because again simply, females couldn't not attend higher education. One name that comes to mind is Skidmore... I think that started out as "The Young Women's Industrial Club." Edited March 3, 2012 by ExiledInIllinois
