Jim in Anchorage Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Would it really matter to us if all non photosynthesizing life on earth besides humans, pigs, cows and certain bacteria went extinct? Not saying that should be policy, but I can not think of a reason the human race could not carry on.
Nanker Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Jezus man. Save the chickens will ya? And don't forget the fish. What happened - too much salad bar?
Jim in Anchorage Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Jezus man. Save the chickens will ya? And don't forget the fish. What happened - too much salad bar? Fish are unnecessary for human survival and complicate the model too much[what fish? Now we need prey species vs feeding them ourselves]. Chickens I will allow.
Ted Striker Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Save the chickens will ya? And don't forget the fish. We had two choices for dinner: The chicken or the fish.
Jim in Anchorage Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 PETA would go crazy. Thats what made me think of it. SAVE THE WHALES/FROGS/OWLS!! Why?
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I don't think we want to find out what happens without bees or certain other animals that pollinate.
3rdnlng Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 PETA would go crazy. Why? Give the f'n animals to PETA and they'll kill 95% of them.
Jim in Anchorage Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 I don't think we want to find out what happens without bees or certain other animals that pollinate. Wheat could care. Really all we need.
Just Jack Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I don't think we want to find out what happens without bees or certain other animals that pollinate. Us humans would have to go around !@#$ing flowers then.

Not saying that should be policy, but I can not think of a reason the human race could not carry on. I suspect that there would be too many variables in play to decide what types of animals/bacteria would need to be saved to ensure hunam survival. 'Prepare for unforeseen consequences' comes to mind.
Jim in Anchorage Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 Us humans would have to go around !@#$ing flowers then. Flowers have led to lot of human sex, no question. Not necessary though.
Bigfatbillsfan Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Fish are unnecessary for human survival and complicate the model too much[what fish? Now we need prey species vs feeding them ourselves]. Chickens I will allow. Fish are necessary for algae and algae are necessary for human survival. The ecosystem can survive quite a few blows but if a large portion of it were to disappear the prospects for the survival of human life don't wouldn't look good.

'Prepare for unforeseen consequences' comes to mind. Why I said "certain bacteria" They digest our food, after all. The rest? We could live without them. Fish are necessary for algae and algae are necessary for human survival. The ecosystem can survive quite a few blows but if a large portion of it were to disappear the prospects for the survival of human life don't wouldn't look good. Fish are necessary for algae? Explain. Algae pre-date fish by two Billion years.
/dev/null Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 All this talk of algae, owls, pigs, and humans is irrelevant. All lower forms of life ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD

That could be a serious threat to human survival. Edited February 29, 2012 by Jauronimo

Not saying that should be policy, but I can not think of a reason the human race could not carry on. Serious question? It would knock the global ecosystem on its ass, to the significant detriment of the human race. How, for example, are you going to feed anyone without bees and earthworms?

How, for example, are you going to feed anyone without bees and earthworms? Thought I answered that. Bees are unnecessary for Wheat. Worms? A rototiller maybe?
Alaska Darin Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Thought I answered that. Bees are unnecessary for Wheat. Worms? A rototiller maybe? Mother Nature is going to kill you first.
