Maybin will be entitled to a one-year salary in the range of $2.5 million, the Jets will have a chance to match any offer Maybin accepts with another team, and the Jets ultimately will be entitled to receive a first-round pick as compensation if the Jets choose to let Maybin walk.

either this report is false....or they must be hoping he accepts an offer from another team.

Jets just hoping someone signs him and gives them a bonanza on the comp pick. Watch someone do them a favor and then later get a sweetheart deal in exchange.

As a former first round pick isn't that the only tender they could give to Maybin?

No. He was cut and resigned to a minimum deal. The compensation is based on what level of salary they tender him at.

No way anyone bites and surrenders a 1st round for Maybin.

Ralphy mite. Let us hope his home aides are still not allowing him to use his rotary phone for which he used to draft him in the first place.

We should have kept if we could have gotten a first rounder out of him.

According to the update at pft, tendered at a lower dollar amount, but draft pick compensation based on draft round. And, no, i have no idea how this all works.

I have a higher chance of getting hit by lightning today than Maybin does getting claimed for a first rounder.

It's 90 and sunny today where I am by the way.

Yes.The lowest tendered salary has the players original round as the compensation, which for Maybin would be a 1st.

Mehta has updated his story to explain that the Jets plan to use the “original-round” tender on Maybin, which entails a lower tender than the high tender. Since Maybin originally was drafted in the first round, the Jets can secure first-round compensation for roughly half the price. A review of the convoluted language of the CBA on this point suggests that, indeed, the Jets are able to do this.

Unless there is a lower tender than original round, which would probably mean no compensation.

Well, good for them! Since he was in a "contract year", I think his motivation was a little higher last year than it will be this year.
