aussiebills Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 With Cliff Avril going to most likely be tagged and MArio Williams most likely breaking the bank, would Abraham be an option in Free agency He played 4-3 DE for the Falcons and is always a solid contributer, good enough to set the edge and rush he passer Below is the link to Avril most likely to be tagged: http://detroit.sbnation.com/detroit-lions/2012/2/20/2811632/detroit-lions-free-agents-2012-cliff-avril-franchise-tag

He is getting a little up their in age but is still a very good pass rusher.
JStranger76 Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 If we had a seasoned franchise QB and were ready to contend I would, but by the time we are serious contenders(if that ever happens), Abraham will be retired.

Also think Andre Carter would be good pick, he played good for NE and would help fill out our roster for DEs. If we had a seasoned franchise QB and were ready to contend I would, but by the time we are serious contenders(if that ever happens), Abraham will be retired. Still need DEs Franchise QB or not.
jjmac Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I would look at Abraham, but would he be limited in the number of snaps per game?
NoSaint Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I would look at Abraham, but would he be limited in the number of snaps per game? Last year he played very few in order to try and keep him fresh. Whether the coaches were overly cautious, I don't know but his snap count was EXTREMELY limited (which makes his sacks more impressive, but doesn't make him a cornerstone guy but a small role player)
Never NEVER Give-up Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Didn't the Jets draft him after they won their Super Bowl ?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Captain Hindsight Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Didn't the Jets draft him after they won their Super Bowl ?!?!?!?!?!?!? When Namath was playing?

If so, why not Kroy Biermann?
aussiebills Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 He started at RDE according to their depth chart and had the most tackles as a defensive lineman for them
3rdand12 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) I have to agree. it does not matter whether we think it's Bowl time or not. He might make our secondary much better just by being on the field. I would give him a roster spot depending how we do in draft and his price of course. Now that being said he could be a great teacher to one of our newfound youngsterses while while having only a third down presence. And i have always liked his character Edited February 24, 2012 by 3rdand12
NoSaint Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) He started at RDE according to their depth chart and had the most tackles as a defensive lineman for them Which is impressive for a guy that was on the field for like 50% of snaps, if that. I didn't catch his final snap count but i believe it was like 30 a game- definitely can be seen as a pro or con Edited February 26, 2012 by NoSaint
BiggieScooby Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 This is a guy who is getting older but plays with a high motor. I'd bet he is too comptetive to want to come to a rebuilding franchise that doesn't retain their young talent and gets older players and advertises them as saviors.
3rdand12 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 easy now Scooby.. we can always lie to him:devil:
poo Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 It would be great to have Abraham but I think he is asking for Washington Redskins type money and commitment. http://www.nflgridirongab.com/2012/02/25/falcons-abraham-says-he-wants-more-than-12-million-per-season/
BuffaloBillsSD Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/25/john-abraham-makes-a-moon-shot/ Word is he wants 12 million a year, pass.

Yea - near a million a game for a part time player on the downside of his career doesn't add up. I'd do it at a lower price but it wouldn't male sense from his end. He will want to chase a ring unless we waaaay overbid.
NewEra Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 12 mill a year....lol. He's a good player and would help our defense for sure. Maybe 3-5 mill per, but that's not gonna happen. I can see him going to a contender for 5-7 per or a lesser team that overpays him.
aussiebills Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 (edited) no thx if he is that much Maybe if its performance based actually, if he makes pro bowl he can have 12 mil Edited February 27, 2012 by aussiebills
Kaenon Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Per NFP: John Abraham is looking for something close to $12 million per season to stick with the Falcons, a figure for a soon-to-be 34-year-old that could potentially price him out of Atlanta.
