Fan in Chicago Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Quinn has now gone public with his rather negative opinion of Tebow. He credits the defense and luck more than Tebow's quarterbacking skills. I tend to agree with what he states but wonder what motivation Quinn had to go public with his displeasure. Is this a back door way of being kicked out from Denver so he can get a chance to start elsewhere ?
KD in CA Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Quinn's comments sound pretty innocuous to me. Is anyone disputing that they were a fortunate team last year or that Denver's defense and kicker has as much if not more to do with most of Denver's wins? The quotes from everyone else in the story are much harsher and more negative about Tebow. Looks like another case of the headline writer trying to stir up 'controversy'.

I tend to agree more with the fact that Tebow was a product of luck. However, luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparation. You have to admit the guy knows how to win. The real test for him is coming next year when teams have a whole season's worth of film on him to study.

That might be the test for him but you have to be honest with how the Broncos won those games first. The defense is sadly the unsung hero of that team. It is too bad that so many people watched that team play football and most only acknowledge Tebow.
cody Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Quinn succinctly identified why Tebow was successful. “The entire game, the defensive line is chasing the quarterback around, and that wears down the pass rush. Meanwhile, the defensive backs are chasing receivers, but you only throw eight passes, so they start to feel lazy. It only takes that one play, that one big pass, for a touchdown.” That is not a bad strategy. Tire out the defense and then hit a big play. This is the ‘use the run to set up the pass argument’.

It's not that I don't see how the Broncos won those games. I totally agree that the defense and Prator (sp) are the unsung heroes. But what I'm getting at with opportunity meets preparation is that Tebow was able to use what the defense gave him. That's the mark of a good team. Everyone is able to play their part and use the opportunities when they arise. That was something Tebow did very well. I think we still have to reserve judgment on whether or not he's a good QB though until the end of next season. Remember I'm not all hyping up Tebow here. I'm just saying that he was able to do what he was asked to do this year. And I agree, the whole team has to be acknowledged not just Tebow. The whole TEAM did a great job turning around their season and making the playoffs.

The divine comebacks meant that the Broncos were in a deep hole which may have been shallower if Tebow was a better QB. Quinn's comments sound pretty innocuous to me. Sure others have used harsher words. But my question is why a teammate and one who plays the same position chose to say these negative things. A good team mate would privately express his frustrations and unhappiness to the coach and management. Edited February 21, 2012 by Fan in Chicago

Gugny Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 So beacuse he didn't kiss Tebow's butt like 90% of America, he's trashing him? Looks to me like he simply reported what he (and many other of us) saw with his own two eyes. If Quinn wasn't right, then the Broncos wouldn't be planning on adding 2 more QBs to their roster next year.

Exactly. This is what got the Broncos to win games. For someone to say it was all because of Tebow for the Broncos winning ways is foolish. However, to say Tebow was just lucky, is also foolish. The Broncos defense stepped up in a lot of games and were a big reason why they became a playoff team. John Fox also designed the offense to be run-oriented, which played to Tebow's strengths. Tim Tebow wasn't spectacular, although he had his share of highlights, but no one can deny that he got the job done. As for Brady Quinn..........Who is he?

He is a free agent, but after making these comments about Tebow who is going to want to bring him in knowing that he might make similar comments about the other quarterbacks on his new team? If, as in the explanation, the defensive backs got lazy as the game wore on, then they also deserve a stupidity award. Edited February 21, 2012 by bills_believer
