Lots of people pissed that SJ walks. Takes two sides to get a contract done. How do we know that SJ REALLY wants to be here? Anything he says now related to that is posturing. If I was him I would wait until FA and see the offers that are out there. The Bills offer would still be on the table. What if he gets offers from any of these clubs: Green Bay, San Diego, Patriots, Steelers, New Orleans, I would be gone in a heartbeat

Why? So they can sign guys like Leino, Ehrhoff, and Regehr?

LOL nice! I jumped on Sabre seasons this year after those signings. $$$ down the drain :wallbash:

Definitely a good point, but given the reports from both sides that they have been close in the past, and that talks have been renewed... at this point, he can't be asking for anything ridiculous or else the FO would have given him the Whitner treatment, made it public that SJ didnt want to be here, and moved on.

If he leaves, this looks more like the Pat Williams situation. Where our offer was less than $1mil away from what he signed with the Vikes for. If that happens, it's definitely bad football business.

Seems like Buffalo fans are impossible to please. If the team doesn't do anything they are criticized. If they make moves that don't work perfectly, they are criticized. Unless the win a championship every year and every player on the team makes the HOF, people will whine and complain. Atleast the Sabres made an effort. It hasn't worked perfectly but they are trying. The Bills have to prove that they are willing to try too.

Oh good, it only took 28 posts to get to the absurd "We havent won with him!" argument.

That statement is made every season, about numerous quality players, and it is just as stupid now as it has been in the past.

Horrible, horrible logic. Might as well cut Dareus, we've only ever won 5 games with him on the team!!

My god, Stevie Johnson must be the most popular Buffalo Bill to ever put on the jersey. I will be happy if we keep him. But that still is not UPGRADING the team from last season. He is a GOOD player. He is not a GREAT player. We will still need to bring in another VERY GOOD receiver to play on the other side. The herd mentality on this board is mind numbing.

Fred Jackson is our best offensive player hands down, followed by Eric Wood. Where is all the ranting about giving Freddie a long overdue raise and extension. And what about extending Wood and Levitre as well? Do you think we are marching to the Super Bowl if we resign Stevie Johnson? What about taking that money and signing Marcus Colston, and Pierre Garcon, Dwayne Bowe, or Vincent Jackson? Stevie doesn't seem as great mentioned against those guys does he?

I definitely agree that Buffalo fans LOVE to complain, almost more than they love the sport/team. However, I think part of the problem is that we have NEVER had a SINGLE championship in all of these years. I dont want one every year, I just want one.

Actually I think a lot of Buffalo fans would be happy to see even one championship during their lifetime. Last I checked, Bills and Sabres are a combined oh-fer since 1966.

You kinda prove our point. We have a major need at WR, meaning we need MULTIPLE WRs. Letting our best one go is just a ridiculous idea.

We need to sign our good player, AND bring in an additional good player.

WRT Jackson/Levitre/Wood, they definitely need extensions. But that should come AFTER we have our actual FAs signed. They have all been mentioned by multiple posters. No one is ignoring them, they just arent top priority given that they are still under contract.

Out of the 5 WRs you mentioned, Id take SJ13 and Vincent Jackson as the best possible solution. But I think our best shot is at SJ and Colston. Which Id be happy with as well.

Considering age, ability and effort, I'll take SJ over any of those guys, no question about it. But the point is, we need SJ AND one of those guys to have a WR core good enough to be competitive week in and week out.

The rantings about Freddie's extension have been going on since September -- I guess you've been away. And there's also the minor detail of SJ actually being a FA while Freddie is still under contract.

Well Fred is "older" and has a uber competent backup, unlike stevie. Colston would be irrelevant with Fitz same w VJ...

I know I'm in the minority here, but between blaming God, the games losing dropped passes and all the other stupid crap he does,

I'm pretty much done with Stevie.

Spend the money on a pass rush or O-line. PLZ

The question is, are those guys under-performing, or were they over-valued?

I love Pegs and I'm happy that the Sabres will be in Buffalo for the rest of my lifetime. But the point is that a new owner, even one who spends a ton, guarantees nothing.

Never heard of them.

I just want Ralph gone, that's all.

Find out who they are and their situations, and then get back to me on wanting Ralph gone.

I've understood why we have let some good players of the past go....Pat Williams (who knew he had another 5 productive seasons in him) Nate Clements ( Unless you are the best at your position, you shouldn't be paid like one). Then some who just didn't want to be here anymore Jason Peters, Willis,Lee. I would even understand if the cant retain Freddy (wrong side of 30 with a 1st round pick thats come on as of late)...would hate it buts its understandable. But I don't think Stevie's contract price was out of the question and he has said he wants to be a Bill It, I will not understand why would let this one go. His questionable celebrations are where well questionable, but he owned up to hurting his team and said there done. I think we see him inked within the next few weeks.

I sure disagree with your thinking. We have won how many games with Stevie Johnson the past 2 years? TEN!! How many big catches has Stevie made the last 2 years that have been game changing? Obviously not very many. Most of you on this board way overrate his numbers and the impact he has had on our team. Today's NFL is very pass oriented and many receivers have 1,000 yard seasons. He is a good receiver, but certainly not a game changer. Sure I would be happy if we resign Stevie. But he is NOT a dominant player in this league. The only game changer we have on offense is Fred Jackson. I bet if you put Derrick Hagan in Stevie's position and throw him the same amount of balls, running the same routes, his numbers would be almost as good if not equal or better than Stevie's. My point is that Steve Johnson is a GOOD receiver, but nothing special. Lets look at the makeup of the entire team after free agency and the draft is completed before most of you jump off a bridge when Stevie signs someplace else.

He's the best we have.

We likely will not be able to fill two holes at WR. Would be back to Square 1. Dude needs to get re-signed, period. He's entering his prime next season when most WRs start to shine.

Agree, although I believe Demetrius Bell should be a much higher priority than Chandler. I liked Chandler's development, but I think Gailey and his offense deserves a lot of the credit for Chandlers pleasant surprise last year. On the other hand, I think Bell is a good to very good LT and the fact that he was a former 7th round pick makes him even that much sweeter. His injuries are certainly a concern, but I don't think they warrant letting him walk away, just as he very well could be coming into his prime.

If Stevie leaves it'll be a huge loss. Losing D. Bell (which hasn't been discussed nearly as much), will hurt this team almost just as much. Bell's shown he can play in this league, his replacement Hairston, has shown promise, but hasn't proven anything. To hand over the keys to Hairston at the LT spot would be a huge gamble and only further weaken our depth on the OL should there be injuries. I love the idea of having Hairston, Bell & Pears together for the next few years. Those are great building blocks to solidify the OL, but once again it looks like the Bills aren't willing to pony up some cash for one of the more important positions on the OL, and instead will hand the keys over to a guy (Hairston) who will be making about 500k for the next couple of seasons.

What do you guys think of Bell?

P.S.- My intuition tells me D. Bell will be a New York Jet too, which will be a double kick to the face.

I forgot to mention Bell as well. I agree with you on Bell too. It would nice to have Bell, Hairston and Pears. That's true depth. Something we deperately need.

I'm torn on this one. I won't hate it if we re sign him and I won't hate it if we let him walk. Dropping a game winning pass that hits you in the bread basket is not such a big deal when you're 4-12 of 6-10. But if you're 9-7 as opposed to 10-6 due to a dropped TD pass, it's HUGE.

Bills have been finding ways to lose for years. Coach Gailey and I want to change that. Having guys that find new ways to lose doesn't help. But then again, 2 straight 1000 yard seasons is nothing to sneeze at ...
