That tells you how lame the categories are. I only know of minaj because of the super bowl. She's kind of swanky in a gross way. Of course I didn't watch it, but heard Chris Brown won. Hope people booed.
Wooderson
reactions? comments? i'll start with mine: the good: adele the bad: the loss of so many less popular but important categories. the ugly: nicki minaj Turned it on for 5 mins. Saw Lady Gaga with a fishnet over her face and a golden staff. Katie Perry had blue hair, and Adele had a regular dress on. I immediately rooted for Adele and she won. Next Chris Brown performed...changed the channel and refused to go back. Music has declined exponentially over the past few decades, with the exception of a few good bands. I can't handle this new pop CRAP. Country music is higher on my list than many of the stuff that comes out these days. I may sound like a grumpy old man, but I'm 23...if I'm upset with this music I can only imagine what you fine older gents think about this new age. Hope people booed. i was encouraged last year with bands like the avett bros and mumford and sons so i was actually looking forward to this years show. major disappointment. back to no talent gimmicks and mostly pretentious jerks. the exception being adele. seems like a genuine person with a remarkable voice, timing and phrasing. turned it off after about 45 minutes but have read the winners lists and heard about the protest for some newly unrecognized categories. looks like back to the bad old days for the academy. Buftex
It was a pretty dreadful show, all in all. McCartney doing the "Abbey Road" medley was kind of cool, Dave Grohl's speech about "keeping it real" when making a record struck a nerve(technology is killing music as far as I am concerned), and Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keyes tribute to Etta James was nice...Niki Minaj was horrendous...was that even music? birdog1960
Paul McCartney looked like an old lesbian. gotta agree...yes, he's a true legend but he doesn't need any more exposure (nor do most of us want to look at him). how bout showcasing new, rising stars with real underappreciated talent? even if they have to actually play over the old guys (like last year with avetts, mumford and dylan)to sell it to the mainstream. The Poojer
I'm 48 and I still find a ton of great music out there. Not necessarily the mainstream stuff that is always on the radio, but I follow sights like daytrotter, wxpn(out of philly) and other music sites on twitter and get a feel for some of the lesser known, but up and coming stuff...that's how i have fallen for such acts as the walkmen, young the giant and dr. dog to name just 3 off the top of my head. finding good music isn't as easy as it once was, but there is a ton out there thanks to the internet..it also helps immensely being in a city like philly..if i was still in richmond i'd never be as exposed to so many bands. Don't give up!!!! Turned it on for 5 mins. Saw Lady Gaga with a fishnet over her face and a golden staff. Katie Perry had blue hair, and Adele had a regular dress on. Don't give up!!!! Well I don't mean to complain about all the music in general these days, I've always been one to like a little more off the radar type music. It just kind of makes me sick to see the direction that popular music has gone in recently. You would think that a Grammy award would be given to somebody who actually deserved it, not some bonehead singing about the ghetto or boats n hoes. The Poojer
all about the benjamins....you'll never see a deer tick or f***ed up win a grammy, not enough people listen to it to make it 'popular' yet someone like f***ed up has been praised in almost every critic list...fyi, not my style of choice but I can appreciate it...they are very 'sybilish'...very good music then all of a sudden the 'thrash metal' vocals come out of nowhere... Well I don't mean to complain about all the music in general these days, I've always been one to like a little more off the radar type music. There is plenty of good music out there. However, the Grammys isn't the place to find it.
birdog1960
what did yall think of the foo fighters song from the tent outside the staples center? pretty repetitive, unimaginative, pedestrian to me. can't say i know their newest stuff otherwise. but they won a handful of grammys. LeviF
When will the Foo wars end? I was sort-of kidding. I'm not a Foo hater. Don't particularly like them either, but they're enjoyable at times, at least. They beat out Dream Theater and Megadeth for the hard rock/metal Grammy.... What a farce. This. Dream Theater deserved it, by far, for me.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Bruce and the E-Street opened the show and they were amazing. I though Bruno Mars was great too, nice little throwback to classic Motown. Then the show sucked fierce until Adele came on and reminded people that talent can sometimes overcome crappy commercialism. I'm not a big fan of her kind of music but her talent is undeniable. She has a remarkable voice. My favorite part of the performance was the end where they panned across her "contemporaries" and they all had this look of: "F***, she just made us all look like sh**." SageAgainstTheMachine
Say what you want about the new dubstep trend, but when deadmau5 came on and "infected" the Foo Fighters during Rope, that was pretty good theater.
