linksfiend Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Yim Yames, Jay Farrar etc, do 'Old LA' Didn't his old bandmates from Uncle Tupe (aka Wilco) already do this with Billy Bragg? (the link is blocked where I work)
The Poojer Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 i'm not sure...this song is from previously unreleased woody guthrie lyrics see if this link works better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvBXy_x1aVY Didn't his old bandmates from Uncle Tupe (aka Wilco) already do this with Billy Bragg? linksfiend Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 i'm not sure...this song is from previously unreleased woody guthrie lyrics see if this link works better youtube.com/watch?v=PvBXy_x1aVY Nope. YouTube is also blocked. Damned "activist" IT guy. And I still forgot to check that link out at home. Anyhow, Bragg&Wilco didn't do this particular song. But they did release a whole album of previously unreleased Guthrie material "Mermaid Avenue is a 1998 albumof previously unheard lyrics written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie, put to music written and performed by British singer Billy Bragg and the American band Wilco" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mermaid_Avenue" So it sounds like all the fellas from Uncle Tupelo admire old Guthrie material (rightfully so)
BillsFanNC Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I'll have to check this out, one of the other collaborators is Will Johnson from Centro-Matic, another fantastic band. The Wilco & Billy Bragg Guthrie albums were fantastic. One of my all thime favorite songs is California Stars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhm27uXG6bg
Pete Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Always listen to Woody and Dylan's lyrics- there is always a message.

BillsFanNC Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Love the steel panther avtar.... Thanks. I've been telling anyone who remembers 80's hair metal (Def Leppard , Whitesnake, Motely Crue etc.) either fondly or as a guilty pleasure that they need to check out Steel Panther. How can you not love a band whose drummer is named Stix Zidinia and has a song that begins like this? If you don't golf that's ok You can be a Tiger anyway Lie through your teeth when things get tough or your balls are gonna wind up in the rough! Remember this when you're having fun Three holes are better than a hole in one If the word gets out don't be afraid When a 9 iron's heading for your Escalade
