Dave_In_Norfolk
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2841539/posts Drug companies make money because the government buys drugs that save peoples lives. This guy is a total jerk, Finding himself in the unenviable position of defending oft-derided drug companies, Santorum stuck to his guns. "He's alive today because drug companies thought that they would make money in providing that care and if the drug company didn't think they could make any money by providing that care, I hate to put it in these terms, but that drug wouldn't be here," he said, adding that he sympathized with the mother, "we either believe in markets or we don't." B-Large
A few thoughts: 1. Americans are going to have to begin to budget more of their dollars for health care if they want it, and want the best. 2. Profit incentive delivers the best therapies and medicines. 3. Care is rationed in any system, for profit or in Nationalized Care Systems- there is no way around it, unless you are willing to pay the tab in cash and you have unlimited funds 4. There is no detail in the article, but if the kid had insurance and was part of a risk pool she should not have had to out-of-pocket 1M. 5. Healthcare is the single largest liability fiscally for this US. Whether it be the expense of adminstering Government Run Sugle Payor, or Cosumer Driven Private Insurance that takes more money of out of general economic spending, we need to prepare for the coming of the crunch.
