I guess I just don't see the issue with such a nice tribute. In some cultures, infants are tattooed...I'm aware that's not American culture but I don't think there's any inherent wrongness to it. IMO, a ten year old doesn't really appreciate the permanence of the tattoo. But more importantly, does it really benefit a child to imprint a constant reminder of a traumatic experience on his arm? However, I do think one has to take into account the overwhelming grief both the boy and mother must be experiencing. I have a difficult time condemning either for an expression born out of mourning.
