syrcuse315 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) When talking about college prospects for the NFL draft, size comparisons between the college players and the current NFL players is a crucial aspect when predicting a playerβs possible success in the NFL. Iβve seen some people on here refer to a playerβs size as to either why they want him drafted or not so this is just to show how they stack up against some of the better NFL players. List is pretty long but I tried to focus more on the players people think Buffalo Might take at OLB, OT, CB, and DE. All of them are earlier round picks. I apologize if a guy you wanted to see isnβt on the list I can always just add them after to make a more complete list. K-9 Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I'd have to see all the college prospects wearing suits and posing in a picture with Vincent Jackson, also wearing a suit, before I can determine if their size is adequate for the NFL. Β GO BILLS!!!
San Jose Bills Fan Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) First of all, thanks for doing all the work and it's good stuff. Β However I wouldn't make it too much of a habit as far as posting heights and weights. Β There's always a percentage of players whose measurables are exaggerated by their schools and personally, until they're measured at the combine I'm very mistrustful of their listed measurements. Β Speaking of heights/weights and not meaning to hijack the topic but the guys I'm most interested in seeing measured at the combine right now are RG3 and Justin Blackmon. Β No one talks about it but RG3 looks a little bit on the short side for a modern day NFL QB. That's concerning to me. Β This is going back to our conversation about ideal measurements for positions, outlyers, etc. Β I don't know how many people have noticed but QBs are getting taller and taller. The only "shorter" QBs who are successful today are Drew Brees and Michael Vick. Β It seems like there are more 6'4-6'5" QBs than ever before and it makes sense as they have to see over taller blockers and pass rushers (and spare me the counterpoint of passing lanes, etc). All things being equal, taller is better. Β As far as Blackmon, he's listed at 6'1" but looks taller to me. Β I'd have to see all the college prospects wearing suits and posing in a picture with Vincent Jackson, also wearing a suit, before I can determine if their size is adequate for the NFL. Β GO BILLS!!! Or better yet, stand bare chested next to Vernon Davis. Β edit: Also keep in mind that many players gain substantial weight as they mature into their bodies. Β It might be more useful to consider the heights/weights of this year's prospects compared to participants in the NFL Combines over over the last few years. Β If you change the year in the URL, it takes you to that year's combine going back as far as 2009: Β http://footballsfuture.com/2011/combine/ot.html Edited January 19, 2012 by San Jose Bills Fan
maddenboy Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Not to make extra work, but it might be fun to see the combine measurements for your established NFL players. To see how they filled out. Β Of course genetics, team training staff, and other factors go into that. But it would be interesting I think.
The Poojer Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I'm irish...i learned long ago to avoid these contests... ;-( Β mine is bigger than yours

PromoTheRobot Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I believe 6 inches is the average....oh wait. Β PTR
Sisyphean Bills Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 The ability to whip anybody in front of them rates taller and should weigh more heavily.
Trader Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 I hope we did not pass on Clay Mathews because he did not make it to 6'4".
