dctybor Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Hi all, I'm a diehard bills fan, basically any conversation i have with a group of my friends has been posted and discussed on this forum, lately we've been talking about how are defense needs an attitude - a mean nasty get down and dirty attitude. I think Marcel is a great start, but I think adding a player like Vontaz Burficit would make our defense a lot scarier and could be a source of energy for the entire team. What do you all think? I watched his youtube clips, and followed him throughout the season, and everytime the kid just excites me. GO BILLS!
San Jose Bills Fan Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Yes, he's been discussed. Many Bills fans have concerns over his seeming lack of discipline and his inability to control his temper. There are two recent topics here on Burfict: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/140828-vontaze-burfict-defensive-game-changer/page__p__2356325__hl__burfict__fromsearch__1#entry2356325 http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/138911-vontaze-burfict/page__p__2318193__hl__burfict__fromsearch__1#entry2318193

Isn't this the guy that's a "personal foul machine?"
syrcuse315 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 He's somewhat of a fairweather player. When his team is doing good and he makes some plays he goes nuts and plays all out. When his team is getting killed and he hasn't made any impact plays he tends to give much less effort and get dumb penalties out of frustration. Idk how many of you watched the Las Vegas bowl but right after the first offensive touchdown by boise st. he started mouthing off and got an unsportsmanlike conduct after having only been on the field for one drive. When things are good, he's great. When things are bad, it's like he doesn't want to be out there and he just penalizes your team. He isn't the type of guy gailey and Nix want and I don't see them taking a risk on an ill tempered guy. He will end up going to either the Eagles or Ravens if I had to guess.
NoSaint Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Isn't this the guy that's a "personal foul machine?" Right, but a lazy one is even worse. It seemed he lacked some explosion this year compared to past. I haven't heard a ton of echoing of that sentiment though. I don't know if he got a little out of shape or was just playing lazy in the games I saw. Certainly the only difference making I saw was 15 yarders against him.
CBD Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Outgoing head coach Dennis Erickson characterized Burfict's junior season as "average." There may not be a more accurate way of putting it. While Burfict certainly has the hype and talent to warrant leaving school early, quite frankly he's been a disappointment over the past two seasons. Burfict's junior season showed more production, but also a trouble trend of personal fouls. That included two in the regular-season finale against Cal that saw him benched for the final 24 minutes of the game, and he didn't play in the team's blowout bowl game loss to Boise State. Intangibles: His utter lack of discipline is a major concern for scouts; draws too many personal foul flags for late hits and constantly talks with officials and opponents. Has reportedly matured during over the past year, becoming a vocal leader on the field and in the locker room. Removed from starting line-up for one game in 2010 for head-butting Oregon State QB Ryan Katz. Stamina could be improved. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1664141/vontaze-burfict
3rdand12 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 in side the CBS link the Analysis section was intrigueing at least! I want him on the team. if his stock is low enough he could be great project for Dave W. and i bet he would come here. We being an underdog type of team. Needs work but has the physical skills to be very good. Put him under the Stache directly for self discipline and Barnett to help him read and react. Where is he landing in draft pick?

He's a pretty big question mark. This next couple months will make or break him. Talent, intensity and raw ability have many putting him first round - work ethic, and instability mentally will likely have him pulled off many draft boards. All it takes is one team to take a shot but I think he's this years mallet in the sense of some fans hollering first rounder but people in the know (ie NFL gms) being scared to touch him and dropping later into the weekend.
3rdand12 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Thanks for perspective. i still know too little of him but at the outset if he drops far enough would we go for a questionable character such as this case? It just seems he has a challenging upside from all i have read. How far could he fall though? I suppose you recall how early we talked to our boy Jasper and asked some things of him. He got motivated and is here now. I think we should get a scout on this kid asap if we have not already.
T master Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 If we don't take im i can see 3 teams takin a chance on him because of the veteran leadership they have in place that could keep him in check !! I think the Bills with Merriman might have a slight chance of keeping this kids head on straight but the Bills weren't the ones i was thinking of , I think the 3 teams that would be most successful with this guy is Baltimore , Pittsburgh , or the Patriots . This guy reminds me of Ray Lewis or James Harrison & this guy needs some one like those guys that could put the fear from respect in this kid !!!
