thewildrabbit Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Our losing skid started when the injuries started to really pile up. This cannot be overlooked. We were ripping it up when full strength. The defense was still ugly but the offense was compensating for the flaws. Next year with a better DC, new defensive talent, back to full strength. I expect a good year next year. They have got to figure out how to avoid the injury bug. whether it's diet related, strength and conditioning related, stretching? I don't know but they have to get a handle on it. It wasn't just the injuries, as pointed out by others in different threads the Packers had 14+ starters on IR and still won a SB. Its more that this team had little or no depth once a starter went out. Buddy Nix doesn't mention the center position in his presser, but that position was a huge key in the team falling on its face after Wood went on IR. How many guys did they try at Center, like 4-5? Wood, Levitre, Brown, Urbik, Garrison Sanborn. The Bills had a quality backup in Geoff Hangartner and cut him in preseason, he went back to his old team and started. Complete fiasco at center IMO. LT was another sore spot, the rookie 4rd pick LT had to start several games, the Bills even tried the guard Levitre at LT. Starting LT Bell just can't stay healthy. The Bills are just lucky that Fitz didn't suffer a serious injury this year, or that 6-10 record could have been much worse. WR & TE was another travesty, 9 WR's and 6 TE's this team had guys off the street catching balls. now there is some BS going on between the GM and Stevie Johnson, The GM says they want to keep him and talks have been ongoing, which is simply not true. He and his agent states the Bills haven't contracted him since he turned down the Bills last offer awhile ago. The bills currently have one good WR in Johnson, and it looks like they are willing to let him walk. No OLB / DE pass rusher once Merriman went on IR, again! Kelsey was half way decent but still not a dominate threat pass rusher. What team only has one player that can rush the passer, and that one player is known for being injury prone. Its why his old team gave up on him. Bell, Wood, Merriman, Parrish, Easly are known weak links because of a bad history of missing games because of injuries or season ending injuries. Just seems to me that if you know you have certain positions with 'Maybe's" that you get extra help at those positions before the season starts. Considering this team wants to build solely thru the draft, and with cast offs from other teams, I expect more years like the 2011 season.
