Mark Vader Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I'm very underwhelmed by this year's potential class, lots of good names there, but very few great. I would only put Haley and (I guess) Parcells above Andre, and then there is a pretty big gap. So, I think this is his year. I think there are more than three people who are deserving to be in the Hall. Andre Reed should be in. His importance to the Bills offense is udeniable. Bill Parcells is a no brainer, although his stints with the Jets & Cowboys do not exactly help him. Tim Brown deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He always shined and carried the offense for a Raiders franchise that for the most part was poor-to-average during his time there. Aeneas Williams in my opinion is another no brainer. He was one of the best CB's I have ever seen. He was even better than Deion IMO. Just ask Michael Irvin what it was like to play against him. People don't remember him because he played for the Cardinals. Charles Haley was a difference maker and he deserves to be recognized. The character issues are what's keeping him out. Ed Debartolo, Jr. did a lot for the 49'ers organization and brought that franchise out of obscurity. The riverboat scandal looms large though.

Just not sure there are enough spots for Andre. Parcells--most overrated coach of the modern era.Has done very little without Belichick.

This list has no slam dunks. Remember the committee doesn't like coaches that might go back and coach someday. They may make Parcells wait anohter year to make sure he doesn't go back to being a GM. Bettis probably makes it along with Dawson. The rest are toss up like Reed.

Weren't Andre's better than Micheal Irving's? I always saw him as a better player not sure sats wise though. Carter, Bettis, Martin, Roaf...and the owner of the 9ers, tough but I hope this time.
TheBrownBear Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I don't think Andre will ever get in. He only had a brief window (90-92) where he was arguably the second best wideout in the game. He put up some decent numbers after that, but would anyone here really consider him to be great, say, after the second Super Bowl loss? I was there in person for every game from 1987-96, and at his peak he was a HOF caliber player...problem is his peak just didn't last long enough to make him a real worthy HOF member in my opinion.

Um, Parcells *hired* Belichick, and building a good staff is a core task for all head coaches. I guess he gets no credit for that? As for Andre, I thought he was a very good player, but to my eyes he was nowhere near as good in his prime as Michael Irvin was in his prime. Tim Brown dropped way too many passes, and moreover he was also only very good. Carter was the best of the lot (he had seasons where he truly excelled), so of the three I think he's the most likely to get in. I'd have to go back and look, but I don't remember Curtis Martin being close to the best running back in any given year, seems to me there were always several others who were better. Very good player, but great, I'm not sure about that. In 2004, his second last year, he led the league with 1700 rushing yards and dragged that team into the playoffs (over Bledsoe's dead body). He was definitely the best in the league that year. He was remarkably consistent. I think he gets in. He ended up fourth all time, and no one is going to leapfrog him any time soon (assuming Tomlinson retires). http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/rush_yds_career.htm Note that McGahee is now 49th all time.
