Mr_Blizzard Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 So it's been 11 years ssince Andre Reed retired. He's been referred to as "Future Hall of Famer" since the mid 90's. Here we are many years later and he still isn't in. My thoughts: Andre was one of the best receivers of his era, but he will always be over-shadowed by Jerry Rice. There were also a few other terrific receivers in the same timeframe; some with better stats. I think if the Bills had won SB XXV and XXVIII, he would already be in. Comments?
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 He was a great player, but might not have broken the right records to get in.

Not just Jerry Rice, Andre was overshadowed by Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas & Bruce Smith. Andre should be in the Hall of Fame.
Búfalo Blanco Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Even with today's passing stats, he is one of the greatest receivers in the history of the game... He should have been in already.

Best Player Available Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) Someday he will be in. In his era he was truly one of the best. Every year now he is a finalist. There's a very good reason for that. Some also think someday Steve Tasker will get in as the first special teamer ever in the HOF. That's probably a long ways off though. ajzepp Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 We've been one of the best represented teams in Canton over the last ten years...we need to keep it goin'...c'mon Andre!!!
maddenboy Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 We've been one of the best represented teams in Canton over the last ten years...we need to keep it goin'...c'mon Andre!!! Nah. Hall of very good. Hall of "i have warm fuzzy memories of him." Not hall of fame though.

I would only put Haley and (I guess) Parcells above Andre, and then there is a pretty big gap. So, I think this is his year.

Brown has better stats than Andre, but given a choice between the 3 receivers on the ballet this year, Andre Reed is the guy I would want on my team. The only guy from his era that I would have taken over Reed is Jerry Rice.
Buftex Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I really hope he gets in this year. I agree with Rico, beyond Parcells, Charles Hailey, and maybe Willie Roaf, there aren't many guys on that list (from my time- can't really comment on 50's & 60's players) that I would say absolutely belong in the HOF any more than Andre Reed.

Great runner, tough, great receiver. First ballot, in my opinion.
Chandler#81 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Of course I believe he should already be in. Andre was a game-breaker and that's the key requirement. Unfortunately, I think his best chance has past -finalist again notwithstanding. Best wishes, Andre!
KRC Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Have we already forgotten how great Curtis Martin was? Great runner, tough, great receiver. First ballot, in my opinion. This is not his first year of eligibility.
billieve79 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 To be honest, I think everyone on the list belongs in the Hall except maybe Kevin Greene and Cortez Kennedy. It always amazes me how tough it is to get into the Footbaal Hall, yet with any of the other sports it seems like every fringe hall of famer is in.
JOE IN HAMPTON ROADS Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 He has four SB losses working against him, plus others from his team are already representing the SB Bills. That said, I think this is one of the weaker lists in a while, Parcells is a shoe-in but the other spots are anyone's guess. Go Andre!
GOBILLS78 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 This is not his first year of eligibility. Didn't say it was. He should have been elected last year.
Nanker Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Andre's been a finalist the last two years though Carter and Brown have better stats for the most part than Andre. I see Parcells, Martin, and Haley getting in this year. Hope Andre breaks in too. Don't want to see DeBartolo in, and there are enough Stealers in already to suit my taste.

I'd have to go back and look, but I don't remember Curtis Martin being close to the best running back in any given year, seems to me there were always several others who were better. Very good player, but great, I'm not sure about that. Edited January 8, 2012 by Rico
KD in CA Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 We've been one of the best represented teams in Canton over the last ten years...we need to keep it goin'...c'mon Andre!!! I fear that works against him, but remain optimistic that this is Andre's year.
