dave mcbride Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 There's no feaking way that the top cb is gonna be there at the 10 spot. They never last that long. This is all fantasyland stuff.
purple haze Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Agreed. Nor I. Physically Claiborne can't hold a match to Peterson… Peterson is a once a decade athlete from a purely physical standpoint… you don't find 220 pound cornerbacks who run a 4.3 forty. If Claiborne is anywhere near the football player Peterson is, it's because of his football smarts and technique. I doubt he grades out as high as Peterson… could be wrong though. edit: I CANNOT get excited about drafting a cornerback at #10. Same with wide receiver… If we were talking Patrick Peterson and AJ Green that would be different but this draft doesn't have the elite athlete at those positions, IMO. It's not about elite athletes. It's about elite football players. If you can get both, great. But this ain't the Olympics. Claiborne is a gifted CB; an elite cover man. A very good athlete in his own right. Peterson is the better athlete. Claiborne might be the better CB. If he's there at 10 the Bills better take him. He's the best at his position and the Bills could use a guy with Claiborne's cover AND ball skills. There are pass rushers that can be had in round two. A pass rusher doesn't have to come with the 10th pick. All that said, Claiborne is probably gone by pick 5 to Tampa Bay. Because he's an elite football player. Edited February 29, 2012 by purple haze
Hater Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 The Browns, Redskins & Dolphins are the 3 teams who are talking to the Rams Browns: first off why is it smart for the Browns to make this move & not the Bills? but I don't think the Browns will do the trade one reason is the last time they invested in a Top Rated QB was Tim Couch & how did that turn out & if the Bills need players the Browns need a whole team Skip the Skins for now Dolphins: I don't think the Dolphins will pull the deal either, they traditionally don't trade their 1st round picks plus they want Peyton Manning Redskins; here is the interesting one, Dan Snyder would do the trade plus the skins are know for giving away 1st round picks but Mike Shanahan maybe not, sure he loves the QBs but Andrew Luck type not Robert Griffin type so that could halt to them trading I don't think the Rams are going to get what they want because if the Browns pull out of the race then its a game of chicken everyone will dare the Rams to draft RG3 otherwise he will fall to the Browns so they could take the best deal they can get & if the Bills don't try then Buddy Nix should be ran out of Buffalo
ryan42790 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) As much as I think Claiborne is great, I can't handle drafting another CB in the first again. Like WR's their are plenty of good CB's to be picked up in the later rounds. Hell we went CB in the 2nd round last year and I think Williams, from seeing his production after he got injured, might be the best CB we have drafted in a long time. Same with WR's. I don't get the concept of using your first round, especially in the top 10, on a no. 2 receiver (assuming Stevie resigns, if not then things change a bit). Receivers are a dime a dozen, and very good ones can be gotten after the 1st round. Edited February 29, 2012 by ryan42790

They got the extra from Atlanta in their trade up to get Julio Jones. It's all a wash for Cleveland. We're talking about having to trade next year's 1st as well. We (and other teams) have much more to lose than Cleveland.

Skills as a corner are probably on par - MC might even be better in coverage. Pp7 had ball skills that are great and made explosive returns. Hard to evaluate perimeter players on tv but I think if you cut the returns from the equation that MC probably is ahead by a hair but the ability to score is hard to forget for pp
TheFunPolice Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I am not a believer in Fitz HOWEVER, I do think that since Ralph hired these guys they need to be able to do things however they want. If they fail to win 9 games this season (their 3rd) then fire them both. If they want to tie their fates to Ryan Fitzpatrick then that's fine with me. They deserve the chance to prove how they were so smart and everyone else was wrong. But on the flip side, don't whine if it doesn't work.
papazoid Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) just curious, how did patrick peterson do this year? I remember there being a lot of hype around him in the draft. a lot of people thought he was the best DB to enter the draft since deion sanders. i barely pay any attention to the NFC so I'm wondering how his first year went, and if he was prepared well enough at LSU to contribute as a rookie. I don't know much on Claiborne, but i do have a lot of hope for Aaron Williams. I'd rather improve the Dline he did ok.... Peterson was selected to the 2012 Pro Bowl and was the only rookie to be selected to the 2011 All-Pro First Team, as a kick return specialist. btw....Peterson was my #1 "safest" pick in last years draft. ieatcrayonz Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Let's clarify this again. Morris Claiborne is the best CB prospect in this draft and reportedly a better prospect than Patrick Peterson was last year. However, he is NOT the LSU DB that they called Honey Badger (BTW, he is better than that guy, too). You are right and wrong at the same time I guess. I get that Claiborne is not the current Honey Badger, but he certainly deserves to still be remembered with that title. RGIII is the current Heisman but that doesn't make Cam Newton or Sam Bradford or Tim Tebow any less of a Heisman. Claiborne is no longer at LSU but as you point out he was their best CB in 2011 and earned the title Honey Badger even if the new guy has it now. I think his name is Tyron Matthews or something along those lines and he is good too. Personally, if the Bills get Claiborne I would like to seem him turn into an All-Pro and earn that title. He can tell his kids he was a honey badger but this is the pros. Focusing on the past glory won't help earn future glory. Hopefully he'll be an all pro before he leaves, unlike Donte.
tito1 Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 That is what I have been saying all along. HONEY BADGER!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, the honey badger is tyrann Mathieu, not Morris Claiborne.
BiggieScooby Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Mortenson forgot we just paid a guy $59 million to be our starter the next 5 seasons. Look RG3 is the real deal but will likely need the 2-3 year ramp that every QB including Manning and Newton required. Like CardinalScouts said we are in a win now mode. Here's our road map back to the playoffs: Step 1 is resign SJ13. Step 2 get a quality veteran pass rusher. Step 3 nail the draft and get a quality pass rusher, wideout, and add depth. thewildrabbit Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 (edited) Some foolish team is going to give up the farm for RG3, and for the Bills he simply isn't worth it because they still have so many so many holes all over the team.Plus the Bills also lack serious depth at so many positions, and it showed last season when some starters went down. The Bills need O line help, WR help, DE / OLB help, DB help, and still could use depth at other areas. Not to mention that Gailey was still calling 4-5 WR sets with nobody at WR besides Johnson. I dunno perhaps its just me but is he trying to mask the fact that he doesn't have enough valid WR's to run that many 4 WR sets. Just trying to put bodies out on the field to spread out the defense so hopefully it takes coverage away from Johnson? You would think that by spreading the defense out that the Bills would run more often then they actually did. Instead they just kept trying to throw with one decent WR on the field, and opposing teams weren't fooled by this. OTOH, Should the FO pursue Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne in free agency while promising him to draft for the O line with that #10 pick ...I could live with it if RW could part with the $$$ to make it happen. Think of all the season tickets the bills would sell. At the very least if the worst happens and Manning still can't play due to his injury, then cut him and you still have Fitz and a very viable real #1 WR in Wayne. benderbender Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 PS: Ralph also knows that he is living on borrowed time and that the QB position has been unsettled since Kelly retired. Maybe enough is enough, and he finally recognizes he really needs to do something big here to try and turn this decade long rebuilding process around and rejuvenate and energize the fan base to help keep the Bills in Buffalo. People hate on him a lot, but I know he loves the Bills and the fans and I doubt he wants to leave this world fielding losing teams after losing teams. So maybe Al's passing might light some urgency under him and he could push for a big splash and RG3 would be a HUGE splash! Yep, I'm sure 15 years was the magical number to make Ralph realize we need a QB.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Well I guess there is Hope we can lose bad enough to get Matt Barkley in next years Draft. I am crushed & the season hasn't started Because we aren't dumb enough to trade our whole draft for him? We'll be fine without RG3 there a re plenty of QBs(Tannehill, Weedon, Coleman)in this draft that we could chose that will be better QBs than Fitz and there is no guarantee that RG3 will be great either, he could be Cam or could be Akili Smith. As much as I like Claiborne....if we give up draft picks to move up for him I will be piiissssssseeeedddd!!!!! Plenty of good cornerbacks to be had in the 2nd and 3rd round if Buddy really wants an immediate impact DB. THIS!!!
Buffalo Barbarian Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 I read from the Bills site that they interviewed with RGIII. I dont ask why because I dont like him, (would love him), but to be perfectly honest, we dont have the bullets to compete with the other suiters for the 2 pick... Why waste their and his time interviewing - to further tease themselves? Just kicking the tires.

RealityCheck Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 There is a chance that could get it done but my guess is that the Rams will be interested in quality over quantity and the offers for RG3 are going to be substantial. The two firsts are good. That's a given. Extra second and third rounders are ok but they are far less valuable in trade than a first rounder obviously. Those aren't great chips. If I am the Rams I am holding out for a young pro bowl type cornerstone player. Williams is of little value. Coming off injury his value is probably 3rd round to a team that even wants to go to the trouble of checking him out medically, which could be very subjective and involved. I don't see him being a viable chip, IMO. Spiller is dynamic, but runnin bax ain't as valuable as they used to be. To me, he is a second round value in trade, if he even fits your system. Dareus is a stud player. He'd go top 5 in this draft, probably 3rd overall again. Aaron Williams is a player with promise at the corner position. If I am the Rams I take the two #1's and Dareus and Williams. If I could get away with swapping Spiller out for Dareus......in a heartbeat. CJ is a gamebreaking talent but bax are cheap and plentiful. Then, if I am the Bills I still have some early picks in the next couple seasons to replenish and spread out the roster base. I am confused. CJ is a RB which you believe to be a game breaking talent. You then say bax are cheap and plentiful. By definition you appear to be saying that game breaking talents are cheap and plentiful in your CJ analogy. Do you mind clarifying that?
