Chef Jim Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Don't kids still have to register with the Selective Service when they hit 18? I have no clue
Jerry Christ Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 my mom would have been going on 11 I think at this time so I wouldn't have been born. However, my number was low so it would have been a scary thing to have gone through. I was the first kid and the only male for 10 yrs by her. My father in law was there and he still has a lot of issues and goes to the VA frequently.
The Poojer Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 that had to be rough. as i stated earlier, i was 8 in '71 I really didn't understand what was going on, and i am probably lucky for that. I pulled #360 - and the draft was going strong at the time. My brother pulled #47, but he was the last year that had the college student deferment allowed! Pins and needles on that draft day!!
BuffaloBillsSD Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 If I was alive I would have been drafted but I most likely would have volunteered.

Assquatch Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Did you watch it live? I DVRed it. No spoilers, please.
boyst Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Don't kids still have to register with the Selective Service when they hit 18? I did @ 18. It was with registering to vote.
Jim in Anchorage Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I DVRed it. No spoilers, please. And you havn't noticed Uncle Sam has been sending you "Greetings" for 40 years?
Just Jack Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Don't kids still have to register with the Selective Service when they hit 18? http://www.sss.gov/default.htm If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. According to law, a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. Selective Service will accept late registrations but not after a man has reached age 26. You may be denied benefits or a job if you have not registered.
McBeane Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Even though it was 18 years before my time, I would have just missed it at 202. I can't imagine what those who were waiting to hear their number called felt like.
Philly McButterpants Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) I would have been drafted (177), but like others here, would have joined the Navy first. Edited January 5, 2012 by Fatty McButterpants
