letsgobuffalo12 Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Watching NFL countdown this morning and they showed some replay of a game winning touchdown--ruled a completion by way of the "force out" rule. Couldn't help but realize the 180 degree turn the NFL has made in regard to scoring plays: With the force out rule, the referee got to decide (based on whatever they ACTUALLY saw in a play with the naked eye)if they "thought" the receiver would have come down with both feet in bounds--had they not been pushed out by the defender. Now, every single scoring play is automatically reviewed, using slow motion replays and crazy magnified images that coould probably reveal not just whether the reciever's second food came down in bounds, but how many blades of grass his foot clipped on the way down. Overall, is this a good direction the game is going in? Decidedly away from the elements of "human error" that other sports like baseball still cling to?
swnybillsfan Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 yes and no. it's good to have the tecnology to get the call right, but it kinda sucks to see that the right call was avoided because of an inadvetant whistle or an unchallengeable call. seems like there are instances all the time where instant replay really makes me mad.
High Mark Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I believe the refs are only allowed to watch the replays in real time....I heard that once on ESPN and **** a brick. They cant even watch it in slow mo? WTF?
BuffaloWings Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Wait...they got rid of the force out rule, didn't they? I thought the receiver had to get his feet in bounds regardless of whether or not he was forced out. Did something change and I missed it?
benderbender Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Calvin Johnson's jersey sales changed that
