looks more like Polian pissed someone off and now the league does not want the Colts to be rewarded with Luck for tanking the season

Hard to lose when the refs are basically handing you the winning points

Maybe the refs hate Bill Polian and any team he's ever managed? Would explain alot.

Another badly called game(intentional?--ask Marv). Superbowl 26, Redskins vs. Bills. First half, four no-call pass interferences, two on James Lofton, and two on Andre Reed. In frustration, Andre takes his helmet off and slams it to the turf drawing a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty. Coach Levy is seen getting in the ref's face as the teams head to the tunnel at halftime saying repeatedly "You've been bought!" It's not hard to see when viewing the clip that Coach had a point.

On another related note, does anyone remember after Superbowl 25 vs. the Giants, Bill Parcells retired, and, months (or years) later was interviewed by Roy Firestone on ESPN when he stated "I had a plant in the replay booth". I remember thinking "what a (rat), he should be banned from having any association with the NFL forever!" I've tried to find a clip of that interview without success.

Don't know if we went for a field goal on that drive but Andre may have have cost us some points, although it wouldn't have mattered in that game.

The most likely motivation for this would be money to the gambling interests, I can believe that. It should be investigated, it really wouldn't be that hard to do. Someone call the Justice department would they? :wallbash:

Actually the best way to handle this is the rule committee, it could easily make all calls and penalties by officials review-able. They do it on spotting the ball, no reason they shouldn't be able to do it on a penalty. :wallbash:

I used the wallbash there because sadly neither of those things will happen for a lot of reasons. But the second one should be out in discussion with journalists. They could help change and improve this issue (JW are you listening?).

Sports fans whine more than spoiled little girls. If my team lost it was obviously crooked.

Reminds me of the constant losers at racetracks who whine that the races are fixed but continue to bet.

I think that second one is a great idea.

Did you watch the Houston game or just assumed we're spoiled little girls?

Justice Department?? Now that's funny.

So you want every call to be reviewed? Even funnier.

If there was a story to report, wouldn't you think at least one reporter would have sniffed something out by now? People have been complaining about refs calls for generations. Where is the story?

Furthermore, if every call was reviewed the game would easily last over 5.5-6 hours. Reviewing every call is so impractical I can't believe someone would think its possible.

The 'hands to the face' call was on the offensive lineman at the start of the play (he damned near took his head off) not on the QB tackle. The sack play was because he hit the QB at or below the knees, which is a stupid penalty in general and shouldn't be a rule IMHO... but it is in the rulebook: http://www.nfl.com/r...tectionofpasser

It's one of the many rules changed/created for Tom Brady

They could have penalty reviews like they do for challenging plays, Have 2 for the game and the last 2 minutes of each half. There would need to be a separate review committee instead of refs so there isn't any conflict of interest.

Each game is reviewed afterwords anyway so they could punish refs who make outrageous calls just like they do for players with helmet to helmet hits.

to be honest the story is what gets created IMO. Look at what was lined up this week, broncos losing makes Orton vs tebow a marquee game instead of broncos clinching and it meaning nothing. Colts winning now puts the luck sweepstakes in jeopardy again. Jets losing doesn't knock them out and leaves a bunch of teams chasing the wildcards in the afc as well as setting up a huge giants cowboys game.

I don't know where I fall on the nfl being fixed to be honest. That in itself is enough to wonder though as I should be able to easily dismiss such a thought. Things happen very conveniently a lot in the nfl may be coincidence may not be.

It may however fall to simple bias tho. The black guy that is a head ref seems to always screw the bills (can't think of his name not trying to be racist), and how many controversial games has steretore(sp?) been a part of in the last 2 years alone?

Pass interference calls and no calls and holdin penalties are a very easy way to sway the outcome of a game. As for who is pulling the strings god only knows. Media, the nfl, and bookies/casinos are just the short list of who benefit from the proper outcomes of games.

Again I'm not sure where I fall but I do wonder many times and not just with bills games whether or not "the fix is in"

Maybe the reviews could be used for a brief interuption from our sponsors! that we have every five minutes anyways

Jags colts could be one of the most interesting games of all time. Polian doing everything he can to tank the game. Players and Caldwell trying to win. Refs handing them the win as they should.

Phhtsh! I never said review ALL the calls, I said make them reviewable  by that I meant the coach sees the replay (as in the bad block in the back call that Denver had on their return last Sunday, that cost Denver 7) the coach should be able to throw the red flag, same as now, on any other call. This is never going to happen because it would cause just too much of a loss of face by the league (to agree that the refs make mistakes). It would be better for the game but.....it is never going to happen, I agree it would have to be impartial to do this too.

And my point on the Justice dept. was if they were going to investigate this that is who would be doing it. It will not happen unless some investigative reporter releases a story that games are fixed and has some damn compelling proof (which I don't know if they are or not but if they were it would not be that hard to investigate in the first place, I would imagine it would be just follow the money). That is not going to happen IMO because as far as I can tell no one would bite the hand that feeds them, that hard. The reporter that did this would be blackballed by the league. Also the popularity of America's (new) game would take a hit if it was true.

It's an easy way for these refs to make a quick 30 or 40 Grand. I'm not sure what the spread was, but the money line bet could have been something like Colts +300 to win outright. -Thats 300 bucks for every 100 you bet (plus your hundred back.) So you stand to make 400 on a 100 dollar bet. Now, turn that hundred-buck bet into ten grand. Keep in mind that you're the guy who interprets the game RULES. -You've been watching these, spoiled, overpaid, babies make millions playing a GAME, and watching greedy owners rake in BILLIONS in revenue. All you have to do is make a few terrible calls to manipulate the outcome in your favor? Who loses? Not the owners or the players. They already made their fortune. Yah, the fans are pissed, but so what? -they'll get over it. You fly back to Vegas & cash in a bet for forty large. Sure, you feel a little guilty at first, but when you and the missus are spending the offseason in St Croix, it'll all seem worth it.

Don't think it can happen?

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. NFL and NBA refs included.

In your dumbass world no one notices a ref living above their means? Not a single person in their life gets wind and blows the whistle? There are a limited number of NFL officials you don't think the NFL A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR OPERATION!! keeps an eye on the employees? One NBA ref convicted does not equal all are guilty.

LOL! What did I expect, on Christmas night.

I wish you less bitterness and misery in 2012, SD.

Sounds like you've had a really rough year.

The NFL would lose face if the had to "agree that refs make mistakes"?? This is a crazy statement. Refs themselves have publically admitted blown calls ("mistakes") as has the NFL.

And do you really, truly believe that a reporter would hold back on a story implicating the NFL, the mafia, space aliens--whoever--in a massive game fixing scandal....because he would lose his press pass to the stadium?? Come on--there is no way you really believe this! He would rather continue to be some media outlet's beat reporter and have access to the press buffet table and the opportunity to ask completely inane questions in the locker room after wins/losses, instead of becoming the most famous investigative reporter of his time?? That is just nuts. The guy who broke the BALCO story is richer and more famous than he ever was before he and his colleague broke that piece.

"Just follow the money"? What, did you see that on TV?

Bottom line: fans of winning teams don't spend time wondering about who is paying off the refs to make Orton v. Tebow a "marquee" matchup or help/hurt the Colts pick/not pick Luck in net year's draft.

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_New_England_Patriots

(I know...a patsies viewpoint, but I had a hard time finding information about this game).

Bledsoe, playing with a broken finger, engineered late 4th-quarter comebacks against the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills to save the season. The Bills game was especially controversial, as the game was prolonged due to a series of questionable calls. With under a minute to go and down by four points, the Patriots engineered a long drive. However, the Buffalo defense appeared to stop the Patriots on 4th down with a juggled catch out of bounds. The referee needed to determine whether receiver Shawn Jefferson was inbounds, caught the ball, and achieved first down yardage. The referee on the sideline signaled first down after a conference with other officials. Several Bills claimed one said "just give it to them" (referring to first down yardage) in the huddle. Television instant replays showed that he was short of first down yardage, but the NFL had discontinued use of instant replay the previous season. This was followed by a questionable pass interference call made in the end zone on what would have been the game's final play. Bledsoe hit Ben Coates for a touchdown on the final untimed play of the game. In protest, the Bills left the field and let the Patriots kicker Adam Vinateri walk in for a meaningless two-point conversion. Doug Flutie, then the Bills' quarterback, later quipped "They gave them the game, we figured we might as well give them the extra point.”

I watched that game and remember the refs giving it to them. I remember Andre Reed saying after the game "I heard the ref say "just give it to them"". The most egregious referee

mistake I have ever seen. Anyone else remember the game?

That and SB XXVI vs the Redskins are a couple of the more compelling cases of officials throwing games for big market teams over small market teams.

Well, there was that guy in the NBA a few years ago.....hey-you're right! The NFL is rigged!

Not exactly. But I know you know the point I'm trying to make.
