Captain Hindsight Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Okay did someone compare CJ Spiller to MVP Marshall Faulk ? Haha oh dear Lord look what all this losing has done to our fans intelligence..... I don't agree with the notion that CJ can't handle 20 touches a game because he's a little undersized. Why is everyone harping on that? The thing that worries me about Spiller is that he isn't very good at making guys miss and doesn't seem to have great vision. I will give him credit for a very nice broken tackle on his TD run, embarrassed the Dolphins guy, think it was the SS. Great play calling and offensive line work on both of those consecutive runs. The same thing holds true for FJax as it does for Stevie, these guys are very solid players and good teammates. The NFL requires depth to win and we have tons of financial room to sign our guys. The team needs to come first, and if we had severe cap restrictions and it would hurt us somewhere else, then I'd say consider letting him play it out, maybe tag him at the end of next year if he lights it up again like he did this year. The only way I would consider not restructuring his contract is if a trade made sense for the team. I would shop Freddie in the offseason to see what his market value is in order to make the best decision for the team, but my guess is his age and the broken leg might hurt his value. I hope he stays with us for the rest of his career. Our head coach said in his post game presser that Spiller can't handle 20 carries a game. Go watch it. Its about halfway thru the interview
Hapless Bills Fan Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Since Spiller had his best game as a pro on Sunday, does this change Boss Hogg & Cooter's minds about Fred Jackson and a contract extension? Are they finally feeling justified in drafting Spiller at #9? According to Buffalo Rumblings, they wouldn't be surprised if Boss Hogg rides Jackson's contract out. "Spiller looks like he has potential to be a Marshall Faulk-style of player that gets his yards on big bursts, kills the defense on draws and screens, destroys tackling angles with his speed, plays receiver, and can create offense for others with the attention he gets. This may seems like an overreaction, but don't be surprised if Buddy Nix rides out Fred Jackson's remaining contract, and commits to a Spiller-slash-power back combo in 2013. Spiller is proving each week that he's capable of being a huge part of this offense." http://www.buffaloru...s-not-overreact Riding Fred Jackson's contract out, and not resigning Stevie Johnson would set the offense back for years. I really hope Boss Hogg & Cooter aren't that stupid. It's clear to anyone with eyeballs that Fitz lost his two best pass protectors midway through the season: Center Eric Wood and RB Fred Jackson. Spiller is starting to play well. Now it's time for the Bills FO to put their money where all that "they both have roles" talk is. I agree, failing to resign Freddy and SJ would be a further example of the futile cycle (let quality players walk because we might have someone on the roster who might someday be as good) the Bills have been mired in for the last decade.
