spartacus Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Yeah, no one's going to say that Phillips isn't a better coach than Edwards. But the difference in talent is vast. It goes back as far as 2006 when Houston drafted Mario Williams first overall and then DeMeco Ryans (2nd) but in the last three years, they've made a big push. In 2009 they signed DE Antonio Smith as a free agent and then drafted Cushing (1st), Connor Barwin (2nd) and cornerback Glover Quinn (4th). In 2010 the drafted CB Kareem Jackson in the first round. In 2011 they drafted JJ Watt in the first and Brooks Reed in the 2nd and signed free agents Jonathan Joseph and Danieal Manning. Point is, the Texans have invested heavily via the draft and free agency, in defense. And they appear to be a very well-run organization. f The Bills also have invested heavily in their D in both the draft and free agency. The difference is two fold: 1. The Bills talent evaluators have failed miserably in acquiring actual NFL talent and playmakers 2. The coaches are inept failures who destroy whatever talent may exist. Saying you play a 3-4 just because you line up 3 DL against their 5 OL and wonder why they get destroyed all day long is a disgrace to NFL coaching. Hire a coach that actually has implemented and run a defense that works in the NFL, instead of the cheapest guy you can find that will work for cheap.
