Shots fired at Virginia Tech

Police Officer and another shot and killed after a routine traffic stop.

We have an office in Blacksburg that's on lockdown right now.

If the Traffic Stop piece is true, hopefully there will be some Police dash-cam footage to assist in the apprehension.

I'm no Fan of VT! I live in VA and everybody I have seen who "claims" to have gone there is a drunken a'hole. Hopefully the location of this tragedy is coincidental and has nothing to do with VT.

Nor am I. I would say why but the PPP cesspool would drag this thread kicking and screaming if I did.

i will let my wife know she is a drunken ahole.

Daughetr just said the 2 nd dead guy is shooter

Btw,apears the person in the car is not the. shooter, cop pulled over car for a routine stop, another indivdual walked up and shot tthe cop, and t hen it appears ran about a quarter mile and shot himself. That is not confirmed, but what it sounded like from the press conferance.

Jesus, another cop just shot on 95 South in Caroline county(just north of richmond) after/during a traffic stop. Gun control advocates going to have a field day after a day like today.

Actually this is a perfect example of how incredibly stupid "gun free zones" are. If you are willing to kill someone, how likely are you to be dissuaded by a sign that states "no guns allowed". Since it is impossible to remove all guns from society and ensure the safety of all people, why dissarm the law abiding citizens and remove their chance to defend themselves.

The State of Virginia allows CC on public university campuses. VA Tech bans guns on their campus.

The best part is that he's right, gun control advocates will have a field day with this. Makes me want to laugh. Almost.

Are there any restrictions at all on buying a gun in VA? I mean if I am a convicted felon with known mental issues, can I walk into Wal-Mart or wherever and get a gun and ammo no questions asked?

I don't own a gun so I really don't know what the rules or restrictions are. It does seem to me that there are more rules to driving a car than shooting a gun. I mean every time a kid scrapes a knee or falls off a swing someone wants protective legislation, but when people get shot the reaction seems to be "oh well."

This is a rather odd argument ... basically you're saying because of the uncontrollable actions of the few that the majority should be allowed to carry weapons anywhere they want. I get it that gun control is not going to "solve" the problem of sick people who use them for murder and mayhem. Would it not be better to acknowledge that the actions of a few may ultimately prompt gun control advocates to push for the creation of laws or regulations that usurp the rights of the law abiding majority? Your final point also lacks teeth. Presumably in the situation mentioned in this thread the cops were armed law abiding citizens. Sadly, being armed did not help them.

My final point was more about gun free zones in general and not this specific situation. My argument couldn't be more straight forward...If you can't guarantee my safety (and making a zone "gun free" in name only doesn't cut it) then don't take away my right to defend myself. And absolutely, the majority of citizens should be allowed to carry a weapon anywhere the government can't ensure our safety. Obviously there should be certain individuals that are not allowed to purchase a weapon and there are laws in place to restrict legal purchase already. I hope you understand that banning guns in an area like a college campus does nothing more than stop the law abiding citizen from carrying a gun. Murder is already very illegal, if you aren't going to heed that law, chances are you won't obey a "no gun zone" law! I understand not allowing weapons in places such as courtrooms, but there are measures in place to make sure everyone is dissarmed other than security officers. I think you would be shocked at how many law abiding citizens are carrying a gun around you every day. you don't realize it because they will never brandish that gun unless they fear for their lives or the lives of their loved ones. Contrary to the anti-gun rhetoric, the vast majority of gun owners hope to never have to use their weapons in self defense and certainly wouldn't consider using it out of anger over a parking spot or whatever other ridiculous scenario the anti-gun crowd would like you to believe.

Convicted felons are not allowed to own or transport firearms in Virginia.
