I don't live in Buffalo so I don't listen to the call-in shows (maybe people have said this a million times), but the more I watch Fitzpatrick, the more I think his issues could be fixed somewhat easily. For one, I don't think he's that bad like some of you may, but do you ever notice that every pass he ever throws, he winds up, his head, it seems, is looking straight up to the sky and he guns it as hard as he possibly can? It doesn't matter if it's to a RB in the flat or a WR way down field. Now if you watch a guy like Aaron Rodgers, he knows when to gun it, if he's trying to thread a needle, but he also knows when to put touch on the ball and even- gasp- loft it sometimes. Even watching Tebow yesterday, he sees guys with space and he puts touch on the ball. Fitzpatrick guns it so hard every single time that if it's not a perfect throw, it's difficult for the receiver to make an adjustment on the ball- especially the shorter throws. Someone needs to teach Fitzpatrick to put some touch on the ball!

I personally think Fitz would benefit a lot from ramping up the off season training and also working on fundamentals with a top-quality QB coach in the off season. I don't think he got much of this early in his career, and I think his physical potential is there, but his physical abilities aren't where his mental game is.

Look at Drew Brees arms. Look at Aaron Rodgers arms. Then look at Fitz. "nuff said.

Addendum: if it's true that he received a broken rib in Toronto from that huge hit, it is possible this has impacted his throwing motion. I did think his mechanics looked improved at the beginning of the season, and his ratings/completion percentage said as much.

"Perfect Practice Makes Perfect"

i may be making a mountain out of a mole hill.....but, i was at the game very early yesterday, i spent most of time watching Fitz warmup.....i notice two very troubling practice habits that immediately manifested themselves in the game.

#1- receivers were running a simple 10 yard up, stop , turn around and catch the throw. Fitzpatrick kept waiting to release the ball until after the receicer had stopped and faced the qb. THATS TOO LATE !!..it gives the defender more time to react...that ball should be on the way before that. btw, all of thigpens throws got out before the receiver had turned.

#2- considerably after a normal warmup, he did alot of 7 yard very soft lob's back and forth with thigpen and some receivers catching for them. that is not how he would throw in a game. put some zip on it !

#3- they threw some deep balls (20-25 yards)to outside receivers. the receivers were jogging lackadaisical and fitz was throw high arching slow rainbows. again, that would not occur in a game.

game starts, and Fitz could have, should have, been intercepted on all three plays. the first two throws were like i described in example #1 and the third throw was like example #2 that a D-lineman dropped.

Anyone else catch this during yesterday's broadcast...

Spiro Dedes and his partner (Beuerlein?) mentioned that one thing Gailey likes about Fitzgibbons was his ability to adjust his throws mid-motion. They said Gailey likes this because the Bills receivers are given freedom to adjust their routes.

This leads me to 2 questions:

1. Does this affect his accuracy? I think that it must if the Gailey conversation was relayed accurately.

2. Would you give this receiving corp any freedom to adjust their routes? I wouldn't. I wonder if Gailey was covering for poor route running by the receivers.
