Ah hell NO! Norv blows any clown could have been a good oc with those Dallas teams. SD made a huge mistake firing Marty, you go 14-2 and lose a tough game to the Patriots who were the best team of that decade and you fire a guy , not even Ralph would do that.

What we need to do is commit to the 34, scrap the hybrid BS and let our players play the positions they are good at. You got Dareus on the nose and Johnson and Carrington (was) playing OLB and we wonder why our D sucks. Plus there is way too much rotation of players going on. your best players need to play and when they need a break put the backup in for a series so guys can get into a rhythm and the flow of the game. You cant expect guys to play good if they are coming in and out every play and have different assignments all the time. Keep it simple and our D would be playing a lot better.

the front 7 should look like this:

DE Dareus
NT Heard
DE Carrinton

OLB Batten
ILB Sheppard
ILB Barnett
OLB Moats
. Is that the defense you propose just for the rest of the year? Or next year too?

Norv is NOT an excellent HC. He IS an excellent OC. I'd take him as our OC in a heartbeat.

so you want to change the whole system, these guys run different offenses . so silly

The syntax confused me too, but I believe he's saying Gailey as HC and Turner as OC.

One thing I wonder about - a lot of people want to replace Edwards with Wannstedt. As Assistant HC, don't you suppose that Wanny has already had quite a say in regards to the defense?

My thinking as well. Edwards and Wanny should be gone next year.

Norv Turner is a failure? Wow. What does that make Chan Gailey? The Bolt's problem is their locker-room. Specifically, the lack of leadership on the part of Phillip (head-case) Rivers. A patchwork defense, made up of some of the NFL's most unwanted castoffs (Tommie Harris, Takeo Spikes) doesn't help much either. I'd take Norv Turner in two f*#$ing seconds over Chan Gailey. Norv is an excellent HC and OC. In that scenario Edwards would be toast as well. The Stache would take over full time as DC. People who think offense isn't a problem for us are DELUSIONAL. Norv Turner knows how to get the best out of his players. It's unfortunate that San Diego's rabid fan base have sided with an undeserving QB in Phil Rivers.

One of the Chragers strengths WAS their offensive line. No longer. They cannot effectively run the ball. So Rivers has had to force the pass. Norv has made some very conservative calls kind of like Marty used to do. The fans see this and they are very angry. Norv may need a break from football for a spell. Without Rivers the Chargers would be a lot worse.

I still haven't been able to get over the fact that AJ Smith fired Marty after a 14-2 season.

I realize that he lost OC Cam Cameron to the Dolphins and Wade Phillips to the Cowboys, and that Marty wanted to hire his son Brian to run the offense. I can see why this might bother Smith, but he never even gave the guy a chance.Brian Schottheimer went to the NY Jets to be their OC and that team has been in the AFC Championship 2x years now. Lets not forget that AJ also dumped Drew Brees for Phillip Rivers because Brees was supposedly too short.

Now the lord of no rings is sitting on a hot seat. NFN but I'll bet he gets another job asap as a GM somewhere else as he has an astute ability to find talent. I know if i'm a Charger fan I'd be upset about that teams state of affairs. AJ screwed up with both Brees and Marty S.

In order to run Norv Turners offense this team would need to draft some top O line players, something that this franchise has been avoiding for decades.

Whats happening in San Diego is totally not Norv's fault. -Like a lot of teams the Bolts have been plagued with injuries. Especially to their O-line, McNeil, Dielman, Mruzckowski, -Gates has a turf toe that's an on-again/off-again situation. Yah six years ago, the Bolts were a playoff team WITH AN OFFENSE INSTALLED BY NORV TURNER! Still, they couldn't win in in the playoffs under Schottenheimer. They went 14-2, only to get embarassed by the Patriots at home. Then there was the constant tension between Schott and A.J. Smith. That's REALLY why Smith fired him. That, and the fact that all his coordinators from the previous winning season got better jobs. Wade Phillips, Cam Cameron, Greg Manusky (Linebackers coach) all LEFT. Despite those coaching losses, in '07 Norv took the Bolts to their first playoff win since '94! Then backed it up with another playoff win the following season! This simply isn't the same team Norv inherited four years ago. -There's no Tomlinson, No Sproles, and Gates is always hurt. Then Norv had to deal with the lockout and getting guys ready after that. Last season, the Bolts had the #1 offense with a corp of recievers that nobody ever heard of!. Is it now Norv's Fault That Phil Rivers has thrown 17 interceptions? How quickly people forget. I guess it's also Norv's fault that Ryan Matthews is a Fumbling MACHINE. -Nonsense! Of course they'll scapegoat Norv, and get rid of the main reason that the Bolts have had ANY success in the last ten years. WHATEVER. I'm no Charger fan, but GET A LIFE, Norv Haters. I'd be ecstatic if he took a job in B-lo.

Turner was handed a 14-2 team which boasted more pro bowlers then any other team in the NFL at that time. Turner took over a run first offense under Martyball and turned it into a pass first offense dependent on a top O line, once that line faltered the entire offense falters. It could also be that teams have figured out how to beat the Chargers offense as they are so devoted to Rivers throwing it.

Ron Rivera took over that defense and he did as well as Phillips, Its why he was named Carolin's head coach. His was the #1 defense in the NFL last season, the Charger offense was also #1 in the NFL. the problem was the special teams were so horrendously bad they lost several games on ST's alone. A head coach has to get the entire team playing well, all 3 category's. offense-defense-special teams, and not just one area. Whatever you think, its always the head coaches fault when a team fails to win. The buck stops with him

Marty's problem was that rookie kicker did him in by missing that field goal, yea the Chargers were embarrassed because they lost the game by 3 points.

AJ Smith might be a great talent evaluator, but he sucks as a GM. He was responsible for dumping Drew Brees and then firing Marty, he also let Jackson and McNeil hold out last season. The fact is that when Marty told Smith he was hiring his son Brian to take over as OC, and his other son Kurt was to take over the defense, Smith then went to the owner and told him its either him or me.

I don't think anyone in this forum hates Norv Turner, they just don't see him as a head coach... kinda like Wade Phillips

Turner, Hell. Why stop there?

Andy Reid, Tony Sporano, Steve Spagnuolo, Jack Del Rio, Leslie Frazier, and Raheem Morris are on thin ice or have fallen through into the cold lake below.

Let's bring 'em all in and have a world-class coaching staff.

Oh, and don't forget Jon Gruden, Marty Schottenheimer, Mike Singletary, Bill Cowher, Eric Mangini, Jim Fassel, Jim Haslett, and Brad Childress either. They've all been HCs recently. Think BIG!
